Be Prepared

No matter what you see, hear, or read these days, there is always something about some kind of cataclysmic event.  We hear of some kind of snowpocalypse, for example.  Patty says I am obsessed about the drying up of the Colorado River and how that affects both Lake Mead and Lake Powell, two of our nation's largest reservoirs.  Some have suggested pumping water from the Mississippi, but that too is drying up, or at least news reports have us thinking it is.

It would take years to build any kind of system to pump water over the Rockies to help fill the Clorado River.  Same is true of pumping water from the Great Lakes irrespective of the ecological studies and dangers of doing so.

But then there is trafficopolypse or any kind of Apocalypse you can imagine including financial ruin of the world ecomy that awaits right around the corner.  Scientists tell us we are doomed to be hit by an asteroid most anytime.  Nevermind what awaits under the cauldron of Yellowstone.  An eruption there can destroy the world.  If you want something to worry about scientists can make everyone neurotic as we wait for that big event that can destroy us all.

Patty and I were talking yesterday about problems she faces in every day life.  She needed a break and came oit to patio to talk.  I told her my job was to listen and help everyone to just relax.  I told her not to think too far ahead and just approach problems day-to-day and just take each day as it comes.  If you are reading this it might be cold where you are, but the darkest days of winter are over.  It will get warmer.  The western drought will end and the Mississippi River will get back to normal.

But today is today and really today is all we have.  Snow melts.  The Spring may come and hopefully everyone has some money in the bank.  If we allow these issues to pile up on us, we can experience our own Apocalyptic dread.  I relax with a pipe for good reason.  A pipe reminds me all is never lost.  We live.  We breathe.  Hopefully we eat and Christmas is just two days away.  My advice is simply don't worry.  Worry cuts life short.  Just ponder the day we have and be thankful for being alive.  I'll let the scientists worry for me.

Today I am smoking my Boswell and it is warm and sunny on the patio where I am this morning.  Focus on today.  It's really all we have.  This is my Christmas wish for each of you as I probably won't write another post until after Christmas.  Enjoy your day for what is it is.  If it's cold outside the days will be warmer.  My thinking is if I am alive all is well with the world.  Here is wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
