They're Leaving Us

My wife and I ate less than a year apart in age, so when we talk about the 60's years, we both know what we are talking about.  We often get into discussions about classic rock and I enjoyed the folk scene of the sixties with the coffee houses, etc.  She was more inclined to talk about the rock concerts and other groups.  But the language of the sixties is a language we both know.

I mention this because David Crosby died yesterday who was a kind of folk rock artist beginning with the Byrds, then in Buffalo Springfield, CSN, and on his own.  He was 81.  These old rockers from the 60's are slowly leaving us.  And with the death of each one, memories are brought up in our minds of those times and our memories of their music.  Ringo and Paul are the only ones left from the Beatles.  And even if they are still alive, many no longer perform, like the Queen of Rock, Linda Ronstadt.

Bob Dylan is 81 now, and I am not sure he performs much, but he is so individualistic that some might say, "Who cares?"  The passing of David Crosby brought back memories of his groups and his music.  The 60's was a decade some might like to forget and some might not remember.  But the music continues to this day.  I don't know how many modern versions of The Sound of Silence, written by Paul Simon, there are, but there are a slew of them today.  But that is just one example.  Music of the 60's is an offering for credit on many college campuses.  Not only was there so much good stuff that came from the 60's, but a lot of it is performed today.

The passing of David Crosby is just another loss of a rock and folk icon.  We will miss him.  But today, I am on the patio living for today.  I am smoking my Savinelli Arcobaleno Blue pipe my wife bought me for Christmas.  She asked me this morning as to how many Savinelli pipes I own.  I think I have about a half dozen Savinelli pipes.  I am smoking my Tropical Export this morning as I am writing this, but I have my tin of Professor nearby.

I was reading a review this morning of Savinelli 140 tobacco.  One reviewer said it was the best after 50 years of pipe smoking.  Three others said it was the worst.  This tobacco celebrates Savinelli's 140 years of pipe making.  So, take you take your pick.  But Smoking Pipes is sold out anyway.  Here is hoping your day goes well and I thank you each of you for your time.  Peace to all of you.

Dave
