Women Smoking Cigars

 I am not sure what to make of videos of women smoking cigars.  I saw a recent photo of Freud smoking a cigar and also that of Mark Twain, but women smoking cigars seem to me to be incredibly suggestive of attractive women trying to be sexy.  I don't find that in videos of women smoking pipes.  It is because the pipe is an accessory, and a cigar is, well, a cigar is a cigar.  A cigar does not have the pleasing aroma like that of a pipe.  But there is a difference.  These younger, attractive women smoking cigars are, well, different.

I told my wife last evening that I rue the fay when 20 somethings believe they are all philosophers.  No one can be a philosopher until a person has lived a full and complete life.  These days the best philosophers are at least 70 and probably older.  She laughed at my suggestion and said it was probably true.  These cigar smoking women on YouTube are NOT philosophers, nor are they old enough to smoke anything.  Not that a pipe smoker has to be older, but one who smokes a pipe is generally by themselves, while women who smoke cigars want to be seen.

The best philosophers are generally older and loners.  If they have friends, these friends are few in number, but they are close.  The best philosophers have achieved a degree of spirituality, even such as Schopenhauer, who was a humanist.  He once said that a person becomes as important after death as they were just before their birth.  

If we think of our importance during life is most important, we have a surprise for us at the end of life.   This is why I don't care much for today's women who smoke cigars.  They seem to overestimate their beauty and sensuality while smoking a cigar.  It is because these women focus on themselves and the focus of a woman smoking a pipe is on her pipe.  A pipe is an accessory while a cigar is, well, a cigar.  

I find these videos of women smoking cigars as interesting, but their videos don't interest me very much.  A pipe smoker is a different person.  Cigar smoking is generally a social activity, while pipe smoking is not.  And the best philosophers seem to have few friends in life.  This is why I associate pipe smoking with philosophy, more than I do cigar smoking.  The most spiritual of philosophers are generally average people.

Everything about a pipe smoker is average as everything about pipe smoking is average.  Today's pipe smoker is average in every way, not that I associate all pipe smokers as spiritual people, but they seem to be more than cigar smokers.  Like these women, a cigar smoker wants to be seen and noticed, hence the aroma of cigars.  A cigar will get a person noticed, but spiritual people often go through life unnoticed.  Why is this?

I don't have an answer to this question.  But it seems the best philosophers and thinkers about life have been and are solitary people.  This morning I am smoking, appropriately enough, my Savinelli Author pipe with my tin of Until the End pipe tobacco.  I won't suggest I have achieved the ranks of a philosopher, but I have achieved some degree of spirituality.  But my life has changed in the past few years with the biggest change in my life having taken place nearly 30 years ago.  But for years I told only family, while now many know.  

But my point in all this is that I identify with the average pipe smoker and not that of the typical cigar smoker.  I think most people who smoke a pipe, men and women, are more like myself.  These are just a few thoughts for this morning and I thank you for allowing me to share these thoughts with you today.  Peace to each one of you.
