A Broad Brushstroke about Pipe Smoking

I still watch videos about pipe smoking, including pipe smoking 101.  I decided to write about something different today.  I watch a lot of videos on YouTube.  My list includes a lot of videos about smoking a pipe. I saw a video yesterday made by a 22-year-old explaining why he smoked a pipe.  I should find it and post it below, but then I thought it's not really necessary.  I did see a video by the Surburban Pulgrim that I liked, but again, I would have to sort through all the videos in my history file to find it.

I like videos by the Pipe Cottage.  He is a university professor with a Ph.D. in history and owns a small farm in Kentucky and a pipe shop called the Pipe Cottage.  But my point is that pipes are my hobby.  I haven't yet developed skills for making my own pipes or blending my own tobacco.  But the fact is that there is more to pipe smoking than just smoking a pipe.  A lot of pipe smoking hobbiests try their hand at making their own pipes.  Blocks of Briar can be purchased on Amazon for $30.

When pipe smokers make a video reviewing tobacco I pay close attention.  But there is a lot more to pipe smoking than puffing on a pipe.  If one really wants to get into smoking a pipe, there are pipes that can cost anywhere from several hundred to several thousands of dollars.  But one can buy a good pipe for around a hundred.  Having five pounds of pipe tobacco can cost anywhere from $3-10 an ounce.

My point this morning is that like anyone who enjoys a nobby, will enjoy watching videos and reading about it.  Some might make politics a hobby, but there are hobbiests for many things.  Mine just happens to be smoking a pipe.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
