International Pipe Smoking Day

All the forums about pipe smoking are dedicating today to what pipe smokers are smoking and which pipes they are smoking it in.  I thought about my sole Peterson pipe or my Savinelli pipes, but I decided on my J. M. Boswell pipe.  It probably is among my favorite smoking pipes, but then too, I thought about my sole cob pipe, or even my Lee Van Cleef Meerschaum pipe.  But as to why my Boswell this morning is mostly because it has such a big bowl and I wanted a pipe with some substance.

As for the tobacco this morning, I have now finished smoking the last of my Esoterica and did that first.  Then I will smoke some Taste of Temptation, which is a Missouri Meerschaum product by Sutliff.  I have smoked a few bowls of that, but my wife seems to think there are other tobacco blends I have had that had a better room note.  Perhaps the best room note tobacco I have right now is called Sunset Rum by Sutliff.  I have some Good Stuff with BCA mix I will have later which also has a pleasant room note and is a mix I really enjoy, but for right now, I have finished the last of my Esoterica and have moved on to Taste of Temptatuon.

I have now smoked my Esoterica in several pipes and seem to have enjoyed it more in my Boswell.  The room note of Esoterica is very heavy as it is indeed a very rich English tobacco.  There was a strong presence of Perique in that tobacco, but it seems my Boswell is mote suited to Esoterica than the other pipes in which I have smoked it.  But as to the value of this 30 year old tobacco, it seems I enjoyed it more this morning and it smoked very slowly.  I hate for it to be my final bowl of this tobacco but its memory will linger for a long time.

I'm going to keep the Esoterica jar as a memento of this day.  I'll remember that tobacco.  It's just that I have become fond of Aromatics now and my palate isnt adjusted to English blends.  I had some Professor yesterday and I have to say that as an English tobacco it is quite bland.  Not so with Esoterica.  Maybe because that was my final bowl of this 30 year old tobacco and I WANT it to be the best.   But whatever the reason it  was particularly enjoyable this morning.  I have some tins of some other tobacco that are over 50 years old in NY.  I have had one tin of those and Esoterica was so much better.   For one thing Esoterica  tobacco was still quite moist.

Smoking Pipes is limiting as to how much a person can buy in one day of Taste of Temptation tobacco as it is a limited run only for Valentine's Day.  But that will be my main focus today with tobacco.  It has an Almond Cherry flavoring and is pretty much a Virginia mixed with some dark Cavendish.  The flavoring is delicate and is not overpowering like some Cherry blends.  Actually, I rather enjoy it, but as an Aromatic, I have had others I enjoy more.  I have added Sunset Rum to my list of my favorite go-to tobaccos.

But today is about Taste of Temptation.  That is pretty much the tobacco of today.  After I finished that bowl of my 30 year old Esoterica, that is now gone.  So, it's only fitting that at least I have finished that jar on International Pipe Smoking Day.  Here is hoping your day is a good one and I hope I didn't bore you with all I've written about today.  Thank you for your time and hope all of you have a great International Pipe Smoking Day.  Peace to each one of you.

Dave
