Joners?
I need to apologize for my typing errors one might find in my posts on this blog. I am writing my posts on my phone and while I read and reread my posts before posting them, I don't always catch my typo's until later. I do go back and correct them, but often too late. But I thank you for bearing with me.
I am a die hard Baby Boomer having graduated high school the year of Woodstock and spent my childhood in the idylic 50's. But there are social scientists who insist that those born from 1954-1964 should be called the Joners. They were the ones who had to keep up with the Joneses. Baby Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964, with some social scientists saying that is too broad of a range and we need to divide the Boomers into two groups. Basically, what these social scientists are saying is that we need to divide Boomers into two groups, the Hippies and the Joners, because the were the ones that believed they had to keep up with Joneses.
Those two groups are basically the Hippies and the Materialists. And they might be right. Growing up in the 50's was totally different from growing up in the 60's. I mean totally. The 50's were idylic with our generation experiencing Woodstock. But the former group basically came to age in what I call the dull 70's. Hence, the emphasis on materialism and keeping up with the Joneses. So, these social socialoologists might be right.
And those of us right between the Hipppies and the Materialists, might be one or the other, or in some cases, are both. But "Materialists" is MY word for the Joners grouping. At least I found the article interesting, and while I don't give a lot of detailed info here in my blog on the subjects I write about, if interested you can Google the rest. But I can tell you that growing up in small town America in the 50's was indeed the best time in America. A lot of Boomers want to duplicate that time, but it won't happen. America now is so divided I don't see it ever being like the 50's ever again.
Right now I am on the patio by the pool smoking my Savinelli Author 320X pipe and enjoying it very much. Pipe smokers generally agree that a Churchwarden pipe is for reading and an Author pipe is for writing. I am smoking Autumn Evening this morning and am enjoying a cloudy morning with a chance of rain later today. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
