Waterbeds and Lizards

We bought a waterbed about 35 years ago and kept it for many years until we woke up in the middle of the night one night from something wet.  It seems a cat we owned decided to sharpen its claws on the bed and put the tiniest of holes in the mattress filled with water.  We decided then we had to drain the bed and clean out all the water between mattress and liner and get a new mattress, which would have been a conventional mattress.  What a mess!

But I read this morning that waterbeds have not really not gone away.  I can tell you they are very comfortable as they wrap your body in warmth, which on a cold winter's night was very comforting.  It is almost like sleeping on an air mattress.  There are billows in the mattress that prevent waves and from disturbing your partner as you toss and turn.  We bought waterbeds for our kids, and we had waterbeds in some form or another for about 20 years.   Having cats put a damper on our desire to own waterbeds.

Aa for anything else this morning,  Florida now has a new invasive animal it wants Floridians to watch out for.  There is always something to keep wild life experts on their toes.  From Gainesville to Palm county here in Florida it seems that exotic pet owners have been responsible for the so-called Jesus lizard escaping into the wild.  It's called the Jesus lizard because it walks on water as it escapes from being prey.

I don't recall all the details of what defines the appearance of the Jesus lizard, but if one is seen, a photo should be taken with a location and then downloaded to a Florida wildlife website.  I won't post all the details because most of my readers don't live in Florida.  But it seems almost every day, there is some invasive species we have to worry about.  The lizard is from Central America and a number of them have been sighted.  I'm not sure what damage they cause, but more than likely they compete with Native species for food.

Well, these are the things that are happening today.  I didn't have to write today, but I do have advice about waterbeds.  I thought they went out with the end of the 80's.  I was really surprised they are still being bought and sold.  And if it's not the Jesus lizard, it would be something else.

I am smoking my first pipe this morning.  It's my Jobey.  There is no way this would be a $200 pipe in today's world.  It just shows you that the prices of pipes have not changed much over the years.  If this were new today, it might be $100, but not $200.  If I were to sell it as it is as an estate pipe, I might get about $15-20 for it.  If I'm lucky.  But I still like this pipe--a lot.  It has retained that same classic look it has always had; and has remained one of my favorite smoking pipes.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
