A New One
In some fifty years of pipe smoking I still have all but one of my pipes. The one I don't have any longer is my Shire pipe which had a crack in its stem on both sides. My wife suggested I just throw it away. I did. But I notice my only Churchwarden pipe is beginning to burn through. It has a very small bowl and it too wasn't very expensive. So, I am in search of a replacement Churchwarden pipe.
One pipe smoker says he never burned through a pipe. I'm keeping my Churchwarden for now, but I now have a couple of pipes I will no longer smoke. The Lord of the Rungs franchise has increased an interest in pipe smoking by the younger generation and I am hoping pipe smoking will continue to be a viable hobby.
Today I am smoking my Peterson System pipe with my second bowl of the day, which is my Bosun tobacco. I find this Virginia tobacco has a nicotine kick to it, but I find it pairs well with a good cup of hot black coffee. This must be smoked slowly, but I like it. It is flavored with Clove and is considered to be an English aromatic. My first bowl was some Good Stuff/Cherry blend that is slowly disappearing. I'll finish that before I move on to something else.
I received my recent shipment of tobacco on Sunday as I replenished my supply of Autimn Evening and Tropical Export. I have found both those to be my go-to blends. I don't stock a lot of tobacco as some pipe smokers do. Some pipe smokers stockpile five pound bags, but I always keep enough to last for a half year or so.
But getting back to a replacement Churchwarden pipe, I'm looking. I enjoy smoking Chutchwarden pipes because they are so different. I have my eye on a Savinelli Churchwarden, pictured above, and Peterson has a few. So does Nording. But I knew my last one wouldn't last long. And instead of burning it out, I've decided to keep it in my collection, but I'm finished with smoking it as I did with another pipe in my collection.
Every pipe smoker needs a few Churchwarden pipes in their collection because they are unusual pipes. And with interest in The Lord of the Rings franchise, they look so different. So, I'm shopping. The bowl of my only Churchwarden is quite small, and I knew it would not last if I smoked it often. If one pays a lot for a pipe, then one constantly worries aboit it. My Nording pipes are fairly new to my collection, but some pipes are just better than others.
Aromatic tobaccos tend to burn hotter so one must be careful not to smoke a pipe too hot. But a good replacement for my Churchwarden must be smoked carefully. I've never burned out a pipe, but I have a couple I can no longer smoke. So, that is the saga of my Churchwarden. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
