About Falling Asleep

It takes me awhile to drift off to sleep at night.  My wife falls asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow.  Not so with me.  So, I get put my laptop, and I watch a lot of YouTube vids.  I'm not crazy about YouTube, but until something comes along that's better, I feel as though I am stuck with it.  But lately at night it seems the algorithm at YouTube seems to know I often am up until I drift off so to sleep.

So, the algorithm has been giving me a lot of videos lately that are ASMR related helping me to sleep.  The tones of the music are a rather monotonous 450 Hz or there abouts without much change in pitch or sound.  But the fact is that while many of these vids are for overnight use and are anywhere from eight to ten hours long, they are designed to stay with one through the night.

But what I am finding most fascinating is that YouTube has figured out my fascination with anything angelic in nature.  There are videos that guide one through one's conversations with Angels, for example.  And the point is that they are all ASMR related.  ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, which really, according to psychologists is a sort of gobbledygook meaning nothing.  Certain sounds and tones might elicit a kind of goosebumply feeling, or a tingling sensation.

Certain musical tones are said to target areas of the body like the heart muscles.  But to say any of this works other than the monotony of sounds and pleasant images putting a person to sleep, might be more wishful thinking.  I like the imagery and artwork with many of these ASMR videos designed to put a person to sleep.  My favorites are graphical images of the captain's sleeping quarter on a starcruiser where the background engine noise falls in that certain Soundwave for relaxation.  There are a lot of those and all the quarters look peaceful with a huge window showing the stars.

But it seems that YouTube knows I like these videos at night and usually after 11:00PM the various vids begin showing up on my algorithm with YouTube.  I don't like to fall asleep with my laptop in the bed, so I have to be wake enough to put the headphones and the laptop on the nightstand next to our bed.  But the point is that videos often give me enough that I can begin to relax before going to sleep.  And for whatever reason they work for the most part.  I don't expect certain videos that make claims other than sleep to do much else for me, but my point is that I find them relaxing and peaceful for the most part.

I do a lot of thinking before bedtime and it helps to just relax.  My point about writing about these videos is that to some degree they work.  They do no harm whatsoever.  It seems a lot of people are into creating such videos.

I am smoking my Savinelli Champagne Canadian pipe this morning.  The tobacco is the usual suspects.  I have a container each of my Good Stuff/Cherry blend and Sunset Rum.  The temp is 70 this morning with sunny skies.  The birds are chirping and all seem right in the world this morning.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
