An Interesting Psychology
Okay, so I have a major in psychology with a couple of minors in English and Philosophy. My English taught me writing, but philosophy is aboit as useful as the name implies. As for Psycholgy, we used to say that and a quarter would get you a cup of coffee. At least it's value has gone up to about four bucks now. But actually I have found my education to at least be useful in understanding and to some degree (no pun intended) writing about life in general.
I know that all social media uses algorithms to target us with certain ads or ideas, with most of us complaining that our phones are listening to us. When SmartTV's first came out we were instructed on how to turn off the listening devices on our TV's. But these days we just seem to be accepting of the fact that the Internet is listening to us as evidenced by Alexa sending us stuff from Amazon we didn't know we ordered.
Such is the case with YouTube. It too uses an algorithm to send us videos we might like to watch. I don't know why but recently the YouTube algorithm has been sending me vids about money. If I supposedly watch a video for two minutes $10 million will automatically go into my checking account. Okay, I'll bite. But I only did that last night because curiosity got the best of me. I'm still waiting. But I used to listen to vids about psychology and philosophy, but those vids have given way to the ones promising money.
But the fact is that my psychological background says to not hold my breath. Did I actually believe I'd get money from watching a YouTube video? No. But now that I have watched one the useful videos have now given way to useless ones. At least I found psychology and philosophy to be useful, even if they were translated from Chinese. Don't get me started on the translations.
But for me, the most useful vids in the evening are the relaxation videos. During the day my mind is overactive even when smoking a pipe. So, I enjoy the relaxation videos without the promise of anything but love and Peace. I guess it's a carryover from the 60's when us Boomers were mostly carefree hippies. Now we wish we had more weed. This world has become a stressful place for all of us. No thanks to Alexa and TV's with ears. Don't get me started with Smartphones. They're always listening. So, we all need those relaxation videos that promise peace and love. Alexa, are you listenibg?
As for today, I enjoy sitting by the pool smoking my new Sherlock Holmes pipe, but I don't have a switch for my mind. I was watching an angel video with very pleasant music and my wife wondered whether I was getting religious on her. No. That's about as religious as I'm getting. I know my pipe is always listening to me. I don't care what it hears. Today I am smoking my pipe with Tripical Export, having smoked the last of my Good Stuff/Cherry blend, and really, the nice thing about a pipe is that nothing about it is electronic, thank goodness. There are a lot of things I'd like to keep to myself. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
