Education is changing
Computers have changed education with computers having replaced teachers in some cases. High school students are no longer seeing college as a viable choice and are instead opting not to attend college all together. It is getting so that only the top 10% of income earners will be sending their kids to college. But college administrators are not seeing their colleges as the career path they once were.
One reason is the cost of college and how entry-level wages after college have not kept up with inflation. Many of the potential college bound kids say the cost isn't worth it. And many employers are no longer requiring degrees for entry level jobs that once required them. And since Covid, learning across the globe has changed with many realizing a conventional classroom is no longer necessary.
In addition to all this is what is available on the Internet. Granted an Internet degree isn't as valuable as one from a conventional course of study, but there is no question that learning is part of the process either way. Entrepreneurship requires nothing but risk taking and knowledge that can be gained from many sources that do not include a traditional degree. Many successful business people had barely a grade school education. But this is not so true today.
High school is still a must, but to say one needs that college piece of paper is not so true today. Costs, time, and value are what is causing many to re-think a college path. In some cases college does give one contacts and a social life, put in terms of career path, not so much. Unless one is studying for a professional career, a college degree really isn't necessary. And to say that a professional career will afford one more income to pay off that degree might not be true.
I think the college career path has become broken, as do most everyone. I wouldn't write it off completely, but I would advise most anyone that college is no longer necessary. I could ask what one wants to do and most high school graduates often have no idea. The military could be a choice for some, or some kind of venture like the Peace Corps. But I would generally say today a college degree is no longer affordable or worth it. It just all depends.
I am on the patio this morning with my Tim West pipe with some Briar Fox. I like Briar Fox, but it must be smoked so slowly that the nicotine in it could have a very negative affect on me. It is a very good non-aromatic tobacco and is nice as a once in a while treat. But I can't smoke this throughout the day. A bowl a day is about all I can take. It's 78 right now and sunny. Thank you for your time and Peace to each of you.
