Society Collapsing?
I was going to ask whether social media has become too adult, but I saw a YouTube video yesterday asking whether social media is causing society to collapse with the video suggesting that Facebook owning Instagram is causing societal problems. Then I saw a video suggesting that Amazon is causing the collapse of brinlck and mortar retail. There is no question that the Internet is causing disruptions in societal norms.
TikTok is a prime example of how social norms are deteriorating right before our very eyes. It's the fact that since Tik Tok, the average attention span of teens has shortened more than it has ever been. Someone suggested that at the rate attention span is being shortened, the next generation of children will have the attention span of goldfish.
I have seen a lot of changes in my lifetime, but nothing has caused more societal change than the Smart phone. Tik Tok is designed specifically for Smart phone use. With Tik Tok videos about ten seconds long, one can watch a video and move instantly on to the next all the while being tracked by advertisers and AI technology owned and operated by the Chinese government.
But Tik Tok is just one example of how we are constantly being watched by advertisers and the Chinese. But even our own government tracks usage of social media of its own citizens. Not to the same degree as the Chinese, but still it seems that no citizen of any country is immune from being speeding upon by their own governments. Where is all this social media tracking taking us? No one seems to know. There is no question that parents today have a lot to worry about as their children use the Internet.
I have asked this question in regard to social media before I quit using most of it, but still hardly anything we do on the internet is not monitored in some form. And we have no ideas as to whose eyes are observing our children and grandchildren. There is no question that social media has become too adult for those under 18. But how do we monitor children today? I'm not so sure we can. But giving up is not the answer. Watching our children closely is the answer. It's all we can do.
I don't have a lot of snswers to today's question, but there is no doubt the world is changing. You will notice on this forum, one must be at least 18 to access this blog. But the subject matter is about pipes and tobacco. I am not home this morning, but I did open my tin of Apricots and Cream yesterday. I smoked a couple of bowls in my Nording and will have more to say about it tomorrow. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
