There's One in Every Family
Ignorance can be bliss. The more one knows, the more one might wish they didn't know so much. If a scientist learns that the Yellowstone caldera can erupt at any time, that scientist might lose sleep worrying about it. The scientist is able to interpret all scientific data related to the Yellowstone caldera. Such information and the ability to read the data just might prevent them from getting a good night's sleep.
Astronomers are trained to study the stars, comets, and asteroids. If an asteroid the size of a school bus is approaching the earth, such knowledge might keep the astronomer up at night worrying about the asteroid, which might not have an earth impact. But still, in all the astronomer knows, they can't stop worrying about it.
I was reading about how DNA testing has revealed some interesting things, that might be left being unknown. Half brothers and half sisters have been found through DNA testing. But it's the parents of the half siblings that hoped no one would find out. And DNA testing has revealed some very interesting results when it comes to relatives. In some cases there are happy reunions and in a few cases some not-so-happy discoveries. That Uncle Bob next door might not be a real uncle but one's biological father.
I read an article of about 20 such reunions with such surprises as this. In most cases the people wished they had not find out what they learned through DNA testing, but in a few cases there were tears of joy, but still shocking surprises. Some parents hope they can bury the truth, even in small town America. Many did, but DNA testung brought out the real story.
Sometimes DNA testing will reveal a hidden truth, but more often than not DNA testing will reveal a fascinating heritage. But as my father said so often, there is a horse thief in every family. As a minister in small town America he knew a lot of secrets. And some parents went to their graves with such secrets. Sometimes ignorance is bluss because knowing too much can keep one awake at night. Well, I slept well last night and today I am on the patio smoking my Savinelli Blue pipe with my first bowl of the day, being Briar Fox. It's about 70 this morning and my wife mentuoned something about raun tody. It's a little overcast and we shall see. We need it, badly. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
