Twenty Years
According to Stanford researchers that is how much time we have left for society to exist as we know it. They said our consumption of the earth's resources and the need for monetary growth will deplete humanity's ability to survive. Now, for the good news. The earth will go on. But without us. So, what do I think about reading such news last evening? I was going to write about AI, but AI might exist without humans. Once AI learns to replicate itself, it won't need humans to do it for them.
So, according to Stanford scientists there isn't much time left. So, what do we do until then? Sit around and worry? No. We live our lives without giving it any thought. We'll let the scientists and prognosticators worry about the end of society. A lot can happen in twenty years. I almost didn't write about this today or any other day, but it's newsworthy and the information is out there. It was MIT that predicted the end of society in 2040 back in 1972 and just recently scientists at Stanford have confirmed their prediction.
That is not a whole lot of time and it seems every month we are approaching that precipice. But I say not to worry and live your lives aa you normally would. Society can't continue on the pace we're on without dire consequences. But if you want to know the truth I am quite optimistic about the future of humanity. And I am not smoking funny green stuff in my pipes or drinking Rum with my coffee. I really am optimistic.
I can't explain why here, but that kind of negativity gives me a lot of hope. But I don't see things the way most scientists do. There has to be limits to growth and we're almost there now. But instead of sitting around and worrying about the end of the world we really need to be watching for a new beginning. At least I am. I am not sitting around smoking my Olive wood pipe this morning with my Cherry tobacco for nothing. I have a purpose to my madness. Any bad news for the world I think of as good news. But that is the eternal optimist in me. Don't lose heart. All is not lost. All we need is time. Thank you for your time and Peace to all of you.
