Why?
Okay, so my title doesn't really ask a specific question, but maybe just a broad existential one, but this weekend most of the country with a few exceptions is going to... Drum roll... change our clocks. And for the past several years now, Congress has been trying to pass a bill making Daylight Saving Time permanent. But why, oh why, do we go through this ritual twice yearly with Daylight Saving Time being eight months of the year?
Sure, I can ask why about a lot of things, like why smoke a pipe, but I decided the question is about why do we have to keep messing around with our clocks!? Okay, anyone can Google the question and find out that Benjamin Franklin proposed the idea as a joke. So, we borrow an hour from the morning and then add it back in the shortest days of the years. Are we Time masochist? Do we really enjoy losing that hour in the Spring?
Once again we go through the ritual in a this early Sunday morning and again Congress is thinking about making Daylight Saving Time permanent. But what is the problem? Farmers say animals don't have clocks. Babies don't have clocks. Ask a mom about the time change! Ask anyone! We all hate the time change in the Spring. We lose an hour and have to wait eight months to get it back. Bad investment if you ask me.
We supposedly do it for energy savings. The State of Indiana decided Daylight Saving Time cost the state residents 9 million dollars and decided to make Standard Time permanent. Then there is the cost of health care and insurance companies have to pay more claims for drivers adjusting to the loss of that one hour, which takes about a two-week period to adjust to that hour loss. I like Daylight Saving Time. But I would just like for this to be the last time we have to change our clocks. Our savings is less than 1%. And in some cases isn't a plus.
I decided to smoke my Newer Nording this morning. I opened my tin of Apricots and Cream. It has the exact same appearance as Autumn Evening, but it seems there is something missing here. It is really short on flavor. I won't be ordering any again.
I had another post I was going post today, but decided to delete it when I was reminded I have to change my clocks this weekend and I'm going to lose an hour's sleep. Every year I have hopes that Congress will come to its senses. I don't mind losing the hour if I can just change my clocks and NEVER have to do it ever again. Hopefully we will all get our wish and this will be the last time. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
