A New Rack

I've ordered a new rack for my pipes when I ordered the Old Professor pipe tobacco.  I left a rack in NY, but the major differences are that it had holes instead of slots and it was straight instead of the more square pattern above.  The rack above is Teak, while the rack I left behind was Pine with Walnut stain.  The rack above is a far better rack.  My old rack held five pipes and this one will hold six pipes.

A rack is important for Briar pipes parrularly, because it allows them to sit upright and dry properly.  My wife asked me if I have enough pipes for it.  Yes, but I'll move my best pipes to it and keep it on display.  The answer is that I have plenty of pipes to fill it.  There are pipe cabinets and racks costing thousands of dollars if one has a pipe collection worth that kind of display.  Some racks can hold as many 72 pipes or more, but some racks are for pipe shops, as are some cabinets.

Pipe shop owners do a lot of YouTube vids and I'm always interested in what they smoke and how they display their pipes.  Often their pipes will be more expensive and their tobaccos more exotic.  But there is a difference between smokers like myself and shop owners.  Their backgrounds often have a tobacco display along with their pipes.  But they do vids as much for advertising as they do for giving free advice and information.

I am more of the typical pipe collector with fifty years of pipe smoking experience.  My wife was reminiscing about an uncle who smoked a pipe.  She recalled that his pipes weren't cheap pipes, but he always smoked Sir Walter Raleigh.  She didn't recall his collection, nor did she recall much else, but he did have a pipe floor stand, which could possibly be found on eBay, but are no longer sold in retail shops or new on-line.

One of those pipe stands would be nice, but generally, they are for mostly indoor use.  One might not think much about racks and cabinets or display stands when one is getting started in pipe smoking.  And one might not give much thought to tools and pipe cleaners either.  But one of those old fashioned pipe stands might be nice to have as a collector's item.

I have about five pipe racks holding anywhere from one to five pipes.  But I don't have enough racks for all my pipes.  Even a rack for all my pipes not in a rack isn't enough, but I'll move my pipes around and only those pipes I smoke the most will need a rack.  So, I thought I would post a photo from Smoking Pipes of my new rack this morning.  I'll receive it when it comes with my order of Old Professor pipe tobacco later today.

This morning I am smokingmy Savinelli St. Nicholas pipe with my Autumn Evening.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
