A Savinelli Favola Pipe

I thought I would download an image from Smoking Pipes and hope I don't get in difficulties by doing so.  The above pipe is called a Favola Churchwarden from Savinelli.  My wife really liked the blue stem of this pipe.  Favola in Italian means fable.  I have a green stem pipe and one gold stem colored pipe.  But the blue stem of this pipe is not just a blue stem, but looks like something from a fable, or might have been owned by Hans Christian Andersen.

I've written about Churchwarden pipes in some previous posts.  But this pipe is definitely different.  The bowl is a smaller Apple bowl, but I like the appearance of the stem with a small gold band separating the stem from the shank.

Do I have to have this pipe?  Not really.  Smoking Pipes has a number of these pipes available, so they won't sell out quickly.  Maybe instead of a Dr. Grabow pipe at any price, this pipe would be a better choice.  One of the problems with many bent stem pipes is that the smoke rises directly into the nostrils and too, the smoke can make the eyes water.  This pipe is designed for vision as the smoke is far from one's face as one smokes it.

A Churchwarden is just a different kind of pipe.  I can imagine sitting on our lanai by our canal smoking it as we watch the boats go by.  Some days have more boats than others, but weekends are particularly busy.  Some boats have very colorful hulls.  We have found it very relaxing to sit here on most mornings and watch the boats go by.  I never wish we owned a boat, but the people in boats seem happy as they wave once in awhile.  I often wonder whether they are close enough to get a whiff of my tobacco aroma of my pipes as they pass by.

I used to wonder whether my pipes bothered neighbors, but if no one has said anything by now the odds are that my pipes bother no one.  The boats don't go by very fast as the canals are no wake zones.  Sometimes we can overhear conversations taking place in the boats, but we don't give it much thought.

Today I am smoking my Tim West pipe with the last of my Cult Blood Red Moon cherry flavored Aromatic tobacco..  We just love to sit on our lanai and listen to the birds and watch for dolphins breaking the surface.  There is so much to see and hear here.  It's not as peaceful and quiet like it was in NY, but we like the activity here as it breaks up the monotony of just sitting here on the lanai.  Well, these are my thoughts for today and hope you enjoy the photo of this pipe.  I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
