It's Now Afloat
The world's largest cruise ship has sset sail for a trial maiden voyage. The initial voyage of Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas will be in January 2024. It will sail on 7-day cruises in the eastern and western Caribbean. It will boast of a handmade oceanic themed carousel and will have seven pools, one of which will be the largest at sea. It will include nine hot tubs and six water slides. It will have a full-sized movie theater. The ship will accommodate 6,000 passengers and have 15 bars and restaurants with one being karaoke themed.
It is 226,000 tons and has 19 decks. Each passenger will have a GPS tracker, so they won't get lost. It is a quarter mile in length. This ship was built in Finland and will sail from France. There are comparisons to the Titaic which weighed about 25,000 tons to give you some idea. I could go on and on about this cruise ship. Both my wife are finished with cruises, with both of us believing a 250 passenger Viking River cruise might be best.
As for cruises being environmentally friendly we have learned that cruise ships are the least environmently friendly of all means of travel. The largest suite costs ten grand and includes a private butler. The bars on board are like neighborhood bars with each bar serving those in staterooms closest to each "neighborhood."
If you are interested in learning more about this ship, you can read more detail I've excluded. I don't have the room here to include more details. But I am like most on Reddit asking, "Why?" The above photo was lifted directly from the Royal Caribbean Cruise site on Reddit. I read about this ship yesterday thinking I would write aboit it. Our first cruise was on a 110,000 ton Pricess ship that hosted about 2,600 passengers. I found that ship to be too big for my liking. That Pricess cruise was however, the best trip my wife and I have ever taken.
But our thinking is that a Viking River cruise with aboit 250 people on board might be best. But if you are interested you can book a cruise through the Royal Caribbean website. We've decided against taking any more cruises, mostly because of the need for a lot of walking. A cruise ship is a good way to see the world, but there are other more ecologically friendly ways to travel.
I don't know whether there are smoking areas on this cruise ship, but on the Princess cruise to the Med, I could smoke in most bars and open spaces. But on our last cruise, there was one area on one outer deck area and in the smoking lounge. These days, I've found pipe smoking is veey restrictive, as smoking is confined to certain areas onborad ships.
I've decided that pipe smoking is most enjoyable where I can sit down with a pipe and simply enjoy the pleasure a pipe has to offer. It's all Peterson his morning. I have my Sherlock Holmes pipe with a bowl of Early Morning Pipe along with a steaming cup of hot coffee. I'm sitting by the water preferring this view than being on it. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
