Our Next Place

I usually write a few days ahead and then choose one for the day and finish it up just prior to posting around 10:30 in the mornings, sometimes later on weekends.  I began this one a few days ago and finished it up this morning.

We are seriously looking for our next place.  It's possible we could be here until January, but that all depends.  We have little to move, but as to whether the next place is furnished matters not.  My wife says we could return to our son's place for a month or two, but personally, I would rather move from here into our next place.  In my thinking buying a place would be best, but we have invested in a place in NY.  And neither of us are too keen on ownership.

There only requirement I have is that I can smoke my pipe on the lanai, as most places in Florida have lanais. I'm not expecting our next place to be anything like what we have here.  This might be the best of all possible worlds right now.  My wife has found places on golf courses and near lakes, but I told her she can choose.  And no, it doesn't have to be a 55+ community.

One of the things to consider are HOA fees in regard to ownership.  They can be anywhere from $300 to $500 per month if we choose ownership.  Then there iare so many extra expenses like insurance, taxes, upkeep, and other fees to consider.  The cost of ownership is driving many out of homes here in Florida.  There are advantages to ownership here in Florida, but at least a few are saying it's not worth it.  We want to rent for awhile before making that decision.

As much as I enjoyed smoking my pipes on our deck at our house in NY, I have found the patio by the pool at my son's house just as enjoyable.  The lanai here by the large canal is a great place to smoke a pipe.  We have ceiling fans on this lanai and enjoy the afternoon shade just as much.  I just need a place where I can smoke my pipes.  This is a large lanai with seating for six with a couple of large round tables.

We have room for guests, even for over night.  We assume more will come to visit us and depending on what our son decides to do with his house, we could look for a place with three bedrooms.  But that might be looking too far ahead right now.  We are considering all possibilities.  Rentals are tight right now as they have been since Ian.  But a lot of repairs are being made and places are beginning to open up.

I doubt any place we find will be nicer than this.  We are paying top dollar to live here, but it's temporary.  Some places don't have air conditioning and that is a must.  So, we make a list of our wants and will see what we find.  We are developing our list of places we want to visit and go from there.  I told my wife that my only requirement would allow for my smoking a pipe on the lanai.  Other than that, she can choose where we go next.  So, we wait and see.

Today it is my Sherlock Holmes pipe, which has become a favorite, and some Tropical Export.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
