Pretending WILL Be Discovered

I'm not sure this event takes place in Florida, but it COULD be anywhere.  Let me explain this.  Beaches always need cleaning, and often cities and counties don't have crews to get it done, so they will welcome volunteer help.  Throughout my life, I've volunteered to do different things.  But this woman volunteered to clean up a beach.  She is filmed by a friend picking up sticks and putting those sticks in two trash bags.

A video shows the woman with her two trash bags blowing in the wind.  But instead of filling those two bags, she is filmed leaving both partially empty bags on the beach blowing in the wind.  And she just leaves them there for someone else to fill and remove them instead of doing it herself.  She thinks she's being clever to pick up a few sticks and leave.

Social media then roasts her for being a poor steward of the beach, as social media should.  One commentator said the REAL trash left the beach, referring to the woman.  Another asked what she was doing there in the first place.  She got roasted.  I don't know who this woman was, but it could have been ANY beach in the world.  But the fact is she was a pretender.

Social media hates pretenders.  The fact that there was a news article about this woman means that whether the story is real or not attention was given to it with footage of the woman doing just as I said.  And the comments were real.

I've given thought to volunteering to help clean up after Ian, but we have our own cleaning up to do.  But the fact is that beaches can always use the help as trash washes on shores and tourists can be slobs leaving their trash on the beaches.  But to volunteer doing nothing really is low.  Being filmed doing nothing is worse.

I wish I had more information about who the woman was and the location of the beach maybe doesn't matter.  It could be most anyone on most any beach.  In the song "Margaritaville," Jimmy Buffett sings about stepping on a pop top and blowing out his flip flop.  Soda and beer cans had a tab one pulled off the top.  And those pop tops littered beaches everywhere.  And cigarette butts used to litter beaches everywhere as well.

As a pipe smoker, my pipes don't litter, but I am always conscious about my ashes.  I'm smoking my Savinelli Arcobaleno Blue pipe this morning with some Early Morning Pipe and drinking a cup of hot coffee.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
