A Nice Pair
I'll write about two different tobacco blends this morning. Instead of writing a review of each of Consummate Gentleman by Ashton and Caribbean Blue Wynne by Kohlhase and Kopp, I'll tell you about both in this one post. The first is a pure English blend and the latter is described as an Aromatic in the Danish tradition.
Wynne is Gaelic for wind, which is a surname more often found in the America's, most notably in the region of the Caribbean. I think in earlier posts I referred to it as "Wyme," but I didn't check my spelling and trusted my memory. Wyme is described as being cased with Rum, Honey, Vanilla and Goji berry. Although Plum Pudding Special Reserve is described as an Aromtic, I liken both to an English Aromatic, which is pressed in a casing and aged to bring out more tobacco flavor with a hint of flavoring.
Unlike Plum Pudding Special Reserve, the flavoring of Wyme is more in the background. It has a strong tobacco taste with hints of flavoring, although it is a fairly mild blend. In short, I found Wyme to be an easy tobacco to enjoy. European flavoring is more subtle. It's in the background. For those who enjoy both English and some flavoring, Wyme fills the bill quite nicely. It won't ghost a pipe. I can't have it as a daily smoke, but it is a change once in a while. It should keep in the tin and retain its flavor.
Wyme is not a goopy Aromatic, but instead is moist just enough. I found Plum Pudding Special Reserve to be a bit too moist, but behaved nicely after a little drying out, although my wife didnt favor the aroma. Wyme needs no drying. It might be best to keep it fresh and I might store it in an air tight jar. I found Wyme to be an enjoyable smoke and might be best enjoyed in the evening after dinner, almost like desert. It features Virginias, Kentucky, and a bit of Cavendish to give it a smooth taste.
Consummate Gentleman is an English that surprised my wife with a pleasant room note, which surprised me. But it's not a heavy English as is Old Professor. It's a medium bodied tobacco that is Virginia, Maryland, and Burley tobaccos with a pinch of Latakia to give it just a little spice. The tin lid shows a well-dressed gentleman smoking his pipe at a table in a bar with a lady seated across from him. Others seated at the bar and a couple standing behind him are all looking at him.
I would say this is an apt description of a consummate gentleman. My wife wasn't as fond of the room note of Wyme as she was with this tobacco. I have to say that as a medium bodied English tobacco, all descriptions of it are accurate. It has a rather pleasant aroma that for an English is quite friendly to the olfacforires. I might be more pleased with my choice of Consummate Gentleman than I am with Wyme. My wife did not like the room note of Wyme one bit.
So that finishes my reviews on this shipment of tobaccos. Of this group, I am most impressed with Captain Black Original and Consummate Gentleman. There is nothing wrong with all the others, except that I am somewhat disappointed in Eileen's Dream. I think it is a little over the top. They're all keepers and maybe after a few weeks, I'll try Eileen's Dream again and see if my thoughts about it have changed. This morning I am smoking my Alpha pipe with some Consummate Gentleman. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
