The Deadliest Creature

Okay, you might think that humans are the deadliest animals, if one considers humans as such, but no, it's not human beings.  In fact, I labeled it as a creature, because, while some say it is an animal, maybe to biologists humans are animals along with insects.  One might think bears are deadly, and while bear attacks are as rare as shark attacks, neither come close.  Of course we could say some snakes are deadly, but the fact is most anything can be deadly.

So, what is this deadly animal?  You might be surprised that this animal is not found at the poles, but is everywhere else.  It is nothing but the lowly mosquito.  It carries more deadly viruses that kills more than anything else including humans.  Mostly because the lowly mosquito is everywhere and kills with anything from West Nile virus to Malaria.  Any mosquito bite has the potential to kill.  So, the most deadly creature has an arsenal to kill most any other living animal.

The mosquito will attack everything from birds to bears for their food.  But they love humans as anyone well knows.  About the only natural mosquito repellent might be type O blood, the fact is mosquitoes could be called the silent killers.  And the only defense is a mosquito repellent with DEET, but that is NOT a guarantee.  In fact, other than clothing that covers the entire body, there is no defense against the mosquito.

Cardiovascular disease is called the silent killer, but mosquitoes kill about 700,000 people a year.  While humans can die from cancer and heart disease, as an animal the mosquito is the deadliest.  A person could receive hundreds of mosquito bites in a year or even at one time, all it takes is one bite from a mosquito carrying any number of deadly diseases.   A person could go a lifetime getting mosquito bites and never become infected.

The only measure of reducing mosquito bite risks, is to simply reduce the number of bites.  There is no way to eliminate mosquito bites.  But the idea is to reduce the number of bites.  Use clothing and use repellent with DEET.  These are your best defenses.  No one can totally avoid mosquitos.  Pay close attention to symptoms.  Medical care is the utmost if you suspect any symptoms.

Other than this enjoy the rest of your summer and you still might want to avoid sharks, bears, and snakes.  Otherwise relax with a pipe, if you wish.  I'm smoking my Gettysburg pipe with a bowl of Autumn Evening, and I'm enjoying my time on our lanai this morning.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.  Stay well and be careful out there.
