It is and It Isn't

Does Florida have seasons?  Not really.  It will get cooler and already we have fewer 90 degree days.  I notice when I come out to the lanai in the mornings it's not as hot and humid as it was just a couole of weeks ago.  But a lot of northerners who love to see leaves change in the Fall with Fall-like temperatures, often miss experiencing Fall-like conditions and scenery when they move to Florida.  It's Fall, but not really here.

Most don't stay through the Summer months because of the Florida heat and humidity.  I was looking for a Fall tobacco, and of course, on every list was Autumn Evening.  I checked many lists and one tobacco frequently listed was Lane RLP-6.  Don't ask me why they don't give it a name.  But RLP-6 is a Virginia and Burley blend mixed with some Cavebdish.  It is an Aromatic with Vanilla, Caramel, and notes of Chocolate.

Another tobacco I found was Rum and Maple by Sutliff.  Anything with Maple flavoring is a kind off Fall tobacco, although in the North woods Maple syrup is collected in the very late of winter or very early Spring.  But this tobacco was mentioned in someone's list of Fall tobaccos.  There is a Buttered Rum tobacco that I might order for winter and on days when the temps are cooler here in Florida, Buttered Rum tobacco sounds good during light jacket weather here.

There is a tin of a Christmas tobacco on my list.  It's called A Corn Cob pipe and A Button Nose by Cornell and Diehl.  I thought I'd order it now and save it for the holidays.  It might sell out closer to the holidays.  I originally had about six various tins on my list including some English blends.  I might add a few ounces of Epiphany, which is a Revelation Match.  My wife bought me some Revelation Match by Sutliff, but Epiphany is by Cornell and Diehl.  I'll see which I like better, or they might be about the same.

Even though there is technically no seasonal change here in Florida, there is a kind of winter where for a few days it doesn't get above 70 degrees.  And for those light jacket days a Fall-like tobacco is quite suitable here.  But at least I have memories and photos of those Fall days in the woods of NY.

I keep thinking about photographs as historical documents sometimes wondering what Walden Pond was like during Thoreau's lifetime.  What if he had had a camera.  I wonder what his photos would reveal, especially his photos related to Fall. Now it seems too much of our lives are stored on film and social media.  Much would be lost without the internet.  And in some ways that might be a good thing.

Well, these are my thoughts this morning as I write and smoke my pipe.  The mornings out here on the lanai are now a bit cooler and less humid.  It's actually been quite pleasant the past few days as I sit out here.  Today it is my Nording Number 3 pipe with some of my Super Value Ultra/Autumn Evening mix.  I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
