Revelation Plus
I am smoking Revelation Match this morning by Sutliff. As I said in yesterday's post, Revelation was Einstein's tobacco of choice, but his was from Philip Morris Tobacco Company. As one reviewer says, it doesn't make one smarter, or feel smarter. My pipe this morning is my Boswell pipe, which was a birthday gift from my wife in '97. I know the year, because this Boswell has the year stamped next to the engraved signature on the pipe shank.
My wife gave me a churchwarden pipe for my birthday. It is a Savinelli Churchwarden Favola pipe with a colorful light blue stem with pearl swirls mixed in. Favola in Italian means fable. It looks like the kind of pipe a storyteller would smoke. I liken myself to a kind of storyteller, going back to the Middle Ages when stories were told by such a person smoking a pipe, if indeed pipes were a thing back then.
Tobacco didn't arrive in Europe until the 1700's but it's the kind of pipe one might have smoked back then. I smoked that pipe Saturday while watching college football. My wife says every year I say I won't watch college football, but I do anyway. I still find entertainment in college football, no matter what I say about it. But I was mote concerned about properly breaking in my new pipe than I was about the scores of the games.
There was one major upset Saturday that will affect the rankings when they come out later today. However, this is a review of Revelation. It is described as an English tobacco that is more Burley than Virginia, but with enough Virginia to bring out the Plum sweetness. It is blended with just a bit of Lakia and Perique tobaccos. It might be more of an English Aromatic, but is described as an English robacco.
Revelation is a lot like Consummate Gentleman but has a lighter element to it. The room note is just a little sweeter and as an English is quite pleasant for others to notice. My wife also gave me a small leather tobacco humidor made by Peterson that has the head of Sherlock Holmes as a small handle to be used to gently lift the lid off the container. I put a few ounces of Revelation in that and it will be used to store a few ounces of my favorite tobacco.
First of all, Revelation Match is about one third the price of Consummate Gentleman. And I like it just as much. Old Professor has a rather unpleasant room note, even though I still like it. And maybe Revelation is a better compromise as it has just a light Plum note that makes the room note more pleasant. As I smoke Revelation, I'll know whether my wife likes the room note. Finding a good English we both can agree upon that is affordable has been difficult at best.
Apart from her liking Consummate Gentleman, Revelation might be an English we both can agree on. It's not a heavy Plum Pudding room note like that of Plum Pudding Special Reserve. It's barely noticeable. I'll review Velvet tobacco in tomorrow's post, as it too was a birthday gift from my wife. Revelation gets a four star review out of five. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
