Those Pet Videos

 We've had a pet for about 40 years of our nearly 50 years of marriage.  Pet videos always bring a smile to our faces.  Cat videos are priceless.  But why?  In fact, why do we even care?  Because as every Pet owner knows, our pets are special.  They depend on us.  Yes, some people get carried away with their pets.  And some pets get more attention than human famiky members.  

My wife and I have talked about owning another pet, but we've decided a pet isn't for us right now.  And maybe we are finished with pets all together.  Separation anxiety ensues when traveling, which is why some people sneak their pets onto planes, dressed as babies, or pretending they are service animals when they're not.  But pet videos always bring a smile to our faces.  Why? Because most of us understand the devotion a pet has to their famiky or owners and vice versa.  

I enjoy the videos and I know the enjoyment a pet brings to a family.  But I also know that pet ownership can be a huge responsibility.  Then there are vet fees and the care of a pet and in our old age we just don't think a pet is worth it.  We've decided to rent and pet ownership does not fit in with that lifestyle.  Many places don't allow for pets.  And if they do, there are often restrictions.  We just don't feel a pet fits in with our lifestyle.  

 Someone once said that owning a dog is like having a perpetual two year old.  They're teachable but still they are a two year old child.  They need a lot of attention.  A dog is still a dog and can behave like a two year old if they are ignored.  Cats are less dependent, but they need their litter boxes changed and a place for those boxes is necessary.  There is boarding to consider if one travels a lot.  Or the need for care.  

We could care for a dog if our son were to get one.  But we don't think we are good candidates for pet ownership.  Pets are mote than a hobby.  They become family members.  My pipes are a hobby.  If I ignore them, they don't care.  Tobacco is relatively cheap.  And one can have one pipe, a few pipes, or a few dozen pipes.  And if one has a few favorites the others don't get jealous.  I don't have to worry about my pipes tearing up furniture.  And if I just want them to be seen they behave nicely.  

No, my pipes make for a great hobby for me unlike a pet.  They simply sit there and look nice on display.  There is no grooming involved, nor do they need shots.  I can enjoy the pets of others.  I like the various pet videos.  But I'd rather have my pipes as a hobby, not a pet.  Today I decided on my Savinelli Favola Churchwarden pipe with both some Velvet and Super Value Ultra.  I had to order some long pipe cleaners for my two new churchwarden pipes.  I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Strange

 I can never predict how any of my posts are going to be received but I do get a reaction from my wife quite often, but I'll post about my Spirituality thinking I've said enough and apart from a few other subjects my Spirituality posts do quite well.  I had yesterday's tobacco review done a few days ago and saved it for yesterday and again, it seems my tobacco reviews do quite well.  Then I wrote about my age and it seemed no one cared that much   My wife says that it's my titles for my subjects So, while I have so many subjects to choose from, today it is about how my tobacco choices influence my Spirituality or do they?  Not really.  It's just that I can't smoke my pipes without tobacco.  I could be smoking a lot of things.  Like the question asked when someone thinks you are crazy, " What have I been smoking?"  Well, at least you know.  It's never any "funny" stuff.  You could be asking what I've been drinking.  I have ...

Old Ads

 My wife liked my post about old things we remember.  And a lot of what I remembered was good.  But there was some bad things back then that are different today.  Back in the 50's and 60's and even into the 70's advertising in both magazines and TV were incredibly sexist.  I don't have the space in one post to list all the ads, but really they can be summed by saying that a lot of advertising was incredibly sexist. I 've mentioned my wife lit my pipe for me just a few times, but these days she can barely tolerate the aroma of my most flavorful Aromatic tobacco.  She liked everything I said in that post except my mentioning Old Professor pipe tobacco.  Ironically, I like Old Professor the most and she hates it the most.  So, when I mentioned it, she did too.  But back in the day a man smoking a pipe was his lifestyle.  Today, it's a hobby, and not just for men.
