A Dream?
I wrote two tobacco reviews for Smoking Pipes and then after they've been posted for nearly two years, I decided to take them down. It's not that they weren't read, but many times a reviewer might want to remember what they said about this or that tobacco. I don't need to remember what I said about Plum Pudding Special Reserve or Autumn Evening. I almost wrote a review of Eileen's Dream saying how much I didn't like it.
But I decided to cellar some Eileen's Dream and then get it out after a few months. It is exactly what I thought it might be. It mellowed a lot and now I would give it about four out of five stars. Fresh from the tin it is so strong that it would ghost my pipe. It would take three bowls of another blend to get the flavor out of my pipe. But after a few months it has aged nicely and behaves itself quite well. The cigar leaf in it needs time to settle down. And the Whiskey coconut needs time to mesh together.
Instead of an overpowering room note, it is more subtle and simply smells nice. If I were to write a review I would say at first it's a nightmare. But given some time ED behaves the way a good tobacco should. It's just a very pleasant smoke both for the pipe smoker and the aroma in the room. ED needs time to sleep it off. With age the Whiskey becomes mote pronounced and the coconut is just a hint with a very slight aroma of a good flavored cigar.
The cigar aroma is barely noticeable more like a kiss of cigar and not the cigar itself. It just takes time for Eileen's nightmare to become a pleasant dream. I'm much more impressed with Eileen's Dream now than I was when I first opened the tin and had two bowls. I told my wife I hated it and was about to give it a one star review and thought about throwing the rest away. One, I hate throwing tobacco away, and two, I thought maybe after several months it might be decent.
Eileen's Dream is a little pricey, so I won't be ordering it again because for the price there are others I like better. I doubt I'll order more. There are just so many to try and I don't have room to cellar much tobacco. But I'm now glad that I gave it another try. At least I know if I should order it again. But at least I can say I tried it and know what to do the next time should I order it again.
Eileen's Dream is decidedly different. Other than this review I won't post any other reviews about it. Others have raved about it after smoking it fresh as I did, but there are at least a few who simply did't like it. I would advise them to do as I did and put it away for a few months and then see what they think. This morning it is my Nording Angel pipe with the last of my Eileen's Dream. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
