A Few Comparisons

Jesus made Judas the treasurer of his little group of men.  Evidently, Jesus and his small band of men lived mostly on donations.  But that is speculative on my part.  But I like the simplicity of any faith that is not run like a business.  This was a real turn-off for me in regard to ministry.  Everyone needs to make a living and today, there isn't the simplicity of any business, including the church.  Nothing is simple these days.  I don't know if the Roman Empire had tax forms or whether Jesus had to declare Himself as a tax exempt ministry.

We know nothing about tax  forms of the Roman Government.  We know that Matthew was a tax collector by profession.  It seems today, many people are doing research on the Roman Empire.  We in today's society seem fascinated by the Roman Empire.  Why does Roman life fascinate us so much today?  I think it's because of Rome's downfall and many compare what is going on in this country to the fall of the Roman Empire.

While there might be similarities between the Roman Empire and the seemingly decline in the US, there is some 1700-2500 years difference.  The Roman Empire didn't have the war capability we have today.  And a WWIII, will be nuclear.  No, today, world domination is by economics, although now wars are seemingly everywhere.  At least I don't have the fascination of the Roman Empire except only as an historical marker.  The Roman government wasn't nearly as complex as ours is here in the US and most countries of the world.

And technology has not simplified our lives, but actually made it more complex.  One has to have a rudimentary understanding of technology just to survive in today's world.  A cell phone isn't just a device to make phone calls.  It does what most computers can do, and sometimes more.  It is a portable device that keeps the world connected.  Most don't even need a computer today, if they have a smart phone.  Many still need both.

I like the simplicity of the every day life in the Roman Empire.  I wished that all churches could be so simple as to have one person keep the money and distribute is as needed.  Jesus had no board of directors.  In fact Jesus had no committees.  He did not organize His disciples into a non-profit registered with the Roman government.  He just turned the purse strings over to Judas and we all know how that turned out.

I said in my post the other day that I'm old school, and that my pipe smoking is old school.  I'm just an old school guy that likes things simple, but I'm tech savvy enough to use most any electronic device.  I used to be my own IT department, but I can't say this much any more.  Electronics have changed and I have found it hard to keep up.  There is a lot about Windows I know nothing about.  I have an Android phone that after a year and a half I find I'm still asking Google to explain something.

I'm not into vaping pens and I know nothing about hookas.  I'm just an old school pipe and pioe tobacco kind of guy.  Our world has gotten too complex these days.  I like simple things or I like things to be simple.  I might need a pipe repaired once in a great while, but generally I don't need to consult a manual on how to smoke a pipe.  It's pretty simple, actually.  I like that.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
