The Jerusalem Syndrome
I had an article about time written, but came across an article about the Jerusalem Syndrome. Someone is crazy for even coming up with it, but some visitors to the Holy City act out a character from the Bible. A 40 year old Jewish tourist from America acted out by destroying two priceless statues on display at the Jerusalem Museum, saying they were against the teachings of the Torah. That would be like me visiting the Roman Coliseum and saying I am a gladiator and think the statues are my enemies in a gladiatorial fight.
But it seems this is a thing. People will visit a site and pretend they are a biblical character and act out their fantasies. I have a photo of a Roman Centurion holding a sword to my neck and I'm smiling in the photo. But in no way did I attack the gladiator. The Coliseum is a historic museum site. The thought never crossed my mind that people actually act out their fantasies. But evidently this is a thing.
People visit world famous sites or museums and act out fantasies being over taken by some kind of mental craziness that causes people to act this way. One tourist attacked a statue of Christ saying Christ didn't exist and the statue was against Jewish teachings. So, be forwarned. Don't visit historical sites and museums to act out some fantasy. But if you do visit some place and become destructive of artifacts, you can blame the Jerusalem Sydrome, because evidently it is a thing. I'm just saying don't do any damage to anything historical or anything else for that matter.
I wrote a whole article about time and I realize visiting museums and historical sites is a kind of time travel. But they are not places to act out some latent fantasy. Most anyone wouldn't have to be told to behave themselves at all times. As a segue to the article I deleted it was about time. History as it comes alive in places that are ancient is fascinating. I have a kind of reverence for historical places and artifacts.
I was a fan of Warehouse 13 when it was on the History Chanel. This was a fascinating show and I will catch it once in awhile on one of the movie channels. I like the premise that an historical artifact has power. I'm fascinated with the concept of time. I'm fascinated that visiting historical places can take us back in time. One needs context in order to understand, but a guide of some kind will do this.
I'm just fascinated that the Jerudalem Syndrome is a thing though. I've never heard of it, but I have heard of tourists who for whatever reason decide to damage some priceless work of art. I just don't get it and probably never will.
Well, that's what is on my mind this morning. Today it is some Swashbuckler with my Nording Number 2 pipe. Ahoy maties! Aaarrrrg! As always, I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
