Is There a Date?

I believe so.  I said in my post the other day that Jesus was born in the Spring.  Most biblical scholars believe Spring is when Jesus was born with at least a few offering a specific date.  Mine is April 12.  I have taken this day off for my own personal holiday without explanation.  I could just say it is my own personal day and leave it at that.

There are many theories about how December 25 became the date of Christmas, but it is believed that December 21 was the day the Pagans had their festival celebrating the coming of longer days.  Christians wanted their own date which they chose as December 25 after the Pagan festivities concluded.  The Latter Day Saints say Jesus was born in mid-April as Spring is the time of new birth as Jesus represented.

Some have suggested a June date because a woman wouldn't conceive at that time until after the harvest in September.  Some have suggested it was then Martin Luther who introduced the Christmas Tree as being a Pine tree, because they were green all year and thus they didn't die off in the wintertime.  The evergreen, as it called, represents for believers eternal life.  It wasn't until Dickens wrote the Christmas Carol that popularized the Spirit of Christmas, which until commercialism of Christmas kept the Spirit all year round.

There are a lot of traditions regarding December 25 as the date of Christmas, but that in Western society it comes at the end of the tax year when donations can be written off one's individual and corporate taxes.  But maybe my date is closest to that of the Latter Day Saints who just aren't too far off from their mid-April date.  But in my thinking most biblical scholars are correct in choosing a date in the Spring.

I'll just say that April 12 is my Spiritual date for the birth of Jesus and leave it at that.  It might be too early to be writing about the traditions of Christmas, but I started the discussion with myself the other day after reading about Chili's closing on Thanksgiving.  It just got me thinking that now the holidays begin after Halloween and we're early into the holiday season.

It seems the commercialism of Christmas begins earlier every year.  My wife wouldn't allow Christmaa music until after Halloween, and even then it was limited to personal listening only.  In our house, we decorated the weekend after Thanksgiving.  Today it seems, I can wait to get into the holiday spirit.  I was thinking however this morning that a pipe is most fitting around the holidays.  I am smoking my Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipe with my Estate blend.  The sun is shining and the mornings are cooler.  There's a slight nip in the air, but certainly not here in Florida.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
