It's a Holiday
Thanksgiving is a holiday. Back when I was a kid and up until the early eighties, nothing was open on Thanksgiving and especially Christmas Day. Chili's is announcing they are closing 1200 stores across the US on Thanksgiving and a press release informs customers that most stores will be closed Christmas Day. Some retailers experimented with opening stores for early Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving. But most retailers got a lot of backlash from the public for Thanksgiving shopping.
It might be a little early to be writing about Thanksgiving, but as I said in the above paragraph, there were certain holidays nothing would be open. Those were the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. New Year's Day might find a few stores open, but I can remember that only a drug store was open on Sundays.
Things have certainly changed over the years where Sunday is just another business day. But while Thanksgiving is a major holiday, more stores and restaurants seem to be open that day. It seems Christmas Day is still celebrated as a holiday by most restaurants and retailers. Thanksgiving sees retailers advertising early Black Friday deals, but those that did open on Thanksgiving are waiting until Friday because still most retailers believe Thanksgiving and Christmas are days to spend with families.
I'm glad to see Chili's close on Thanksgiving Day. There are people who need to work round the clock year round. Some might say it wouldn't be profitable for a restaurant to be open on Thanksgiving. I would tend to agree.
The world doesn't revolve around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but if it were left to me, the whole world would revolve around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I believe Jesus was born in the Spring, but that does not prevent me from celebrating Christmas in December ot enjoying the holiday period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
A Spring Christmas would never get off the ground and I would be celebrating with no one. Bit in MY thinking there can't be too many Christmases in a year. I'm writing about Thanksgiving and Christmas, because it seems now that November 1 kicks off the holiday period, with many retailers now putting Christmas displays next to Halloween displays and instead of the Holiday period beginning the day after Thanksgiving, it is now the day after Halloween.
Is THAT too soon? It all depends. It depends on your thinking. My thoughts would be that Christmas is every single day. But then nothing would be special about December 25. Macy's began the Traditional Thanksgiving Day parade to get New Yorkers to thinking about doing their Christmas shopping there. Santa Clause was always at the end of the parade. Well, these are my thoughts about the holiday season this morning as I smoke my Notding Angel pipe.
We usually associate Angels with Christmas, but for me maybe Christmas IS every day. The tobacco this morning is Estate Blend. It's perfect with my Angel pipe. They ARE my Estate. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
