The One Goal
If there is one goal every pipe smoker has it is to own at least one Dunhill pipe. Some have gone into debt achieving that goal. Pipe smoking is a hobby and the advice from any pipe shop is to not go into debt buying a pipe particularly if you intend to smoke it. No smoked pipe ever retains it's purchased price. Just like a brand new car. A brand new car loses 10% of its value as soon as it's driven off the lot. I might suggest a brand new pipe loses 50% as soon as it's smoked.
I've mentioned to my wife that on the other extreme end of pricing is a Dr. Grabow pipe, which often is a pipe smokers first pipe. My first pipe was a much greater value than a Dr. Grabow pipe. So, on that end I don't own a Dr. Grabow pipe and most likely never will. A lot of pipe smokers begin with a Dr. Grabow and smoke Captian Black and just quit. A first pipe should be a quality pipe like a Peterson and the tobacco should be a good Aromatic like maybe Mac Barem's Vanilla Creme.
But getting back to Dunhill pipes, one might ask why they are held in such high esteem among pipe smokers. The answer is simple. They are sought by high class pipe smokers as being the best of the best. Dunhill is an English company that is a century old making the finest pipes and pipe accessories. That right there says it all about Dunhill. Very simply put, they are the best.
The above pipe is simply called an Amber pipe, because the Briar comes from a deeper rood, which is more Amber in color. The price is $528.25 on Smoking Pipes and because I'm a valued customer of Smoking Pipes, I get a 15% discount on all Dunhill pipes, but I'm not sure this price reflects the discount or not. Dunhill has this same style of pipe that is called their Dress pipe that is black and would be smoked on an evening on the town.
But I like the Amber and I don't need to pay twice as much for the same pipe in black. There are so few places where a pipe smoker can light a pipe other than a cigar bar or taking a stroll in the park. I miss the days of seeing a gentleman with his Dunhill pipe. My wife asked me about my favorite smoking pipe. I have it out again today. At first I wasn't sure about it, but the more it is smoked the better it gets. It's my Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipe with my Estate Blend. My favorite pipe is my Angel pipe, but a pipe smoker's first pipe is always the one special pipe. Thank tou for your time and Peace to each one of you.
