Today It's About Karma

Okay, so I'm going to put on my theological/philosophical hat this morning, because it's Sunday, and say that it's not just simply a matter of having respect for Human Life that matters.   This is MY thinking and defines who I am.  There is another layer to this and it is a reward and punishment while on this earth.  My Spirituality is a kind of blend of Buddhism and Christianity, but this is what defines me as a person.  I would go so far to say one can believe anything or not believe in anything.

But I define Karma, which applies to ALL regardless of belief or unbelief; and can be anything you want it to be.  Karma is very much a Buddhist way of thinking about life.  Evil is punished by Karma or that good is rewarded by Karma.  One could just say good is rewarded and evil is punished.  I won't get into gray areas.  But what kills the soul is what kills the body.  But Karma is a kind of earthly reward or punishment depending.  Karma doesn't require a belief system but most anyone would believe good is rewarded with good.

Some might say it is the what goes around comes around kind of mentality.  We might say bad people end up in prisons.  I believe it was the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah who asked God why the wicked prosper.  There is no answer except to just wait.  Karma answers.  To some that is God and to others it's just a matter of time.  But Karma is a force of the universe to be reckoned with.  Why? Because we all share the same human spirit.

Neil deGrasse Tyson says eventually the earth will be struck by an asteroid and destroyed.  It's just a matter of time.  Time is either a friend or foe.  We are all bound by time.  Maybe the ultimate Karma is an asteroid colliding with earth if we don't blow ourselves up first.  But is that all there is?  To some it is.  To others it's just death.  For a Spiritual person there is more.

It just depends on your thinking.  If heaven exists no one would get in.  But even if you believe this is all, there's still Karma.  Good is rewarded and evil is punished.  We do good because we still believe good rewards good.  Otherwise everyone would be murderers and everyone chooses their end of life.  Most everyone has at least a respect for Human Life.  We live because this is what we know.

I wouldn't suggest that because one isn't Spiritual one is evil.  Everyone isn't evil because of Karma.  Most anyone believes good rewards good.  The Gospels tell us no one is inherently good.  There is the potential for evil in everyone.  But good always outweighs evil.  It's why evildoers go to prison and in some cases their lives come to an end.

We establish laws based on a reward/punishment system.  But in MY thinking nothing is more important than Human Life including one's own.  It's why not everyone murders or takes their own lives.  But it's Karma that rewards good with good and punishes evil with evil.  Everyone has a sense of what is good.  My pipes could kill me.  But I'm betting they won't.  My pipes help me relax as a Spiritual person.  I simply believe the good outweighs the bad.  This is Karma.  Today it is my Favoli  Churchwarden pipe with the last of my Edward G. Robinson tobacco.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
