It's Christmas Week
Okay, for most everyone Santa arrived on Christmas Eve. But the Season actually ends on New Year's particularly since both days are on a Monday this year. I won't argue the point, because I hate to see Christmas come to a screeching halt at noon on Christmas Day. Christmas night is a huge night for those who want to go to the movies, but too, this is a huge week for college football.
I had a few posts written for yesterday and today, but decided that Christmas really should not come to a screeching halt after Christmas dinner is served and dishes need to be loaded in the dishwasher. We need some time to adjust to a season that is nearly a month and half long starting with Halloween. We need time to adjust before the bills arrive.
Really, I'm thinking Christmas season needs to come to an end about Valentine's Day. Some people don't take their lights down until Easter! I think that is a little long. A lot of northerners in Florida hate the fact there aren't seasons here in Florida and can't get used to shorts and T-shirts on Christmas Day. Those who live in Florida year round don't pay too much attention to national weather forecasts, unless we're traveling and can forget there are blizzards that interrupt travel this time of year.
We can't get used to not having a white Christmas, but still complain if a high for the day 70 degrees. It CAN get cold for New Year's Eve celebrations in NYC being below freezing. That's just downright cold! I just complained to my wife that it will be sunny here on New Year's Eve with a high predicted of only 68. Even that is too cold for most here. It really won't start to warm up here until March, but I'll take it.
I just think that Christmas needs to continue until after New Year's Day and not just come to a screeching halt at noon on Christmas Day. But there are some religions that keep Christmas until Epiphany on January 6. The Twelve Days of Christmas begins on Christmas Day, with gifts given each day until Epiphany. But tell Santa this! Already he's planning his beach vacation if he hasn't left already with his red Speedo already packed.
Even today he might be unpacking or he's already on the beach! Frankly, I wouldn't care if Christmas continues through January. But we already know that Christmas is over and a delay just delays the inevitable. Christmas is over for most. And for those who don't know it, they're just out of step with the rest of us. I look forward to New Year's, but already I know Christmas is over. But my point is that with the buildup of so many days, it's all over in an hour or two Christmas morning, it just shouldn't be. If it isn't over for you, then you live in a different world than most of us. The temps are warm enough for me sit by the pool and smoke my Boswell with some Red River until I receive my next tobacco order. I know Christmas is over, but I'm just thinking it doesn't have to be. But I know Santa ain't leaving the beach! I wouldn't either. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
