Nostalgia of Christmas
There are those who keep their homes decorated for Christmas the whole year round. There are those who say Christmas music makes them sad. But like those who keep their homes decorated for Christmas the year round, there are those who listen to Christmas music throughput the year. But what is it about Christmas that stirs our memories? It's the nostalgia of Christmas. But why does Christmas stir memories both happy and sad?
We can be sad about Christmas, because it seems we recall our early memories of Christmases past. Those memories can be about people who are no longer with us. Christmas time is all about memories. Some people don't want to forget and there are those who don't want to remember. It's the music that stirs memories the most. One might listen to a song from years ago and remember the first time they heard that song.
Music especially stirs our strongest emotions either positively or negatively. Christmas is like that. It stirs our strongest emotions either positively or negatively, which is why Christmas can make some sad. Not all Christmas songs stir positive emotions. But if Christmas is sad or the music is sad, it's healthy to get in touch with those emotions. Not everything associated with Christmas are happy experiences, but we get in touch with our feelings.
I can't say that the song Slent Night is necessarily a happy song, but my hearing it always reminds me of singing it in church services on Christmas Eve. The feelings about it are nostalgic which might be why it is the most popular of Christmas carols. The story behind the song is famous the world over. The story behind it is as famous as the song itself.
Christmas is a time of memories, both happy and sad. The music and the carols can bring back back both happy and sad emotions. But Christmas is one of the few times of the year we seek to be with friends and family. It is a day to be shared, sometimes even with strangers. We are always seemingly meeting new people here at my son's house as we'll be sharing Chridtmas dinner with a few we have never met. But I don't seem to mind. Why? It's Christmas! No one should be alone on Christmas Day! So, we'll share with others on Christmas, or most any time too.
I'm smoking myNording Number 3 pipe this morning with some Tropical Export. It just feels like Christmas even though we have another day to go. Just enjoy it for what it is because Christmas is but once a year, at least for most people. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
