Some Fine College Football

I know at least one of my readers is not into college football.  I could review the upcoming games, but I'll spare the details.  New Year's Day will bring us the two semi-final games, which should be some great college football.  I root for all the B1G teams regardless of who they are playing.  The Cotton Bowl might be more interesting than anticipated with OSU favored by 3.5 at last line issued by Vegas with Missouri having been favored by as much as 2.0.  That just might be the best of the games depending on who shows up for OSU.

The Michigan/Alabama game has a tight win margin with last reports from Vegas giving Michigan a 2.5 point edge with the betting on that game fluctuating between Michigan and Alabama.  I love to see how well Vegas does when it comes to predicting outcome of games.  As I have said before, I don't bet, but I enjoy watching the spreads as game time nears.

These two games might be the best of the lot.  Some say the Georgia/Florida State game will be interesting if for no other reason than to see if these two are even interested in playing.  But if Florida State should beat Georgia, they could have an argument for being number one.  Both these teams feel they both should be in the final four.  They both have good arguments and might make for some interesting football if both teams decide the Orange Bowl does matter.  But so far neither team seems very interested in playing.

Alabama may want to prove they belong in that number one slot, which might bring some extra motivation to win.  Alabama needs to prove it deserves that number one position, which makes this game the most interesting of the two semi-final games.  Michigan needs to prove they belong with the big boys in light of a softer schedule.  OSU says they lost by six to the team with the home field advantage by virtue of two plays that cost them the game.

There are so many teams with something to prove and so many teams that aren't interested in playing.  As to which team shows up has Vegas guessing and second-guessing.  Next year there won't be this problem with a twelve team playoff roster.  But to too many teams their bowl games don't matter.  But OSU is one team that wants a full roster because even Missouri has something they want to prove.  And there is no other team they'd rather beat than OSU.

Will OSU care?  That's a big question.  Can Day motivate the holdouts to play?  Who will dress for that game?  Vegas is betting OSU will show up.  I don't think I have ever heard of so many teams not caring about their bowl games except for the top four.

I said I wouldn't go into derail, but this bowl season so far has not disappointed.  Other than the top four teams out of the top ten, Missouri seems to be the only team interested in their bowl game.  The other teams are working hard to keep players and make the holdouts want to improve their NFL draft status.  There are players who have something to prove.  So, today, I'm smoking my Nording Angel pipe with some Red River blend as I patiently wait for the better bowl games.  They should all be enjoyable to watch because of all the drama this year.

Joel Klatt of Fox Sports said in last night's broadcast of the Holiday Bowl that Alabama will beat Michigan and Wahington will beat both Texas and Alabama and become the National Champion.  There are a lot of people who would love to argue with him.   Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
