A Few Thoughts about Pipe Smoking

I always close each post with a few words about my pipe and tobacco.  I'm not an evangelist for smoking pipes.  I don't write to influence anyone to smoke a pipe.  It's that I am almost always smoking a pipe when writing.  But why?  First of all, I happen to own a lot of pipes, but a pipe, secondly, and foremost, is my "thinking" tool.  I think best smoking a pipe.  Is there a reason for this?  Does a pipe have magical writing powers?

No.  Many famous writers have smoked pipes, although not so common among writers today.  But that is more about the society we live in today.  There simply are so relatively few of us who smoke a pipe.  I've watched several vids made by preachers who will smoke a pipe and make videos about this hobby Sunday afternoons.  It's still done, but not as openly as before.  A pipe smoker simply loves to relax with a pipe.

I am no exception.  I'm more relaxed with a pipe and my thoughts seem to flow.  It's what I do.  No reason otherwise.  A pipe cleans out the cobwebs and helps me think more clearly.  My pipe is more of a tool as it was for many writers in days gone by.  I simply carry on the tradition and I can understand why so many smoked pipes while writing.

I could be smoking something other than a pipe and tobacco.  But I choose not to.  I could be vaping, but I've tried vaping and stull prefer a pipe.  I switched to cigars for awhile and decided they are too much of a health risk, although I'll smoke a good stogie a few times a year.  But for writing, I've found a pipe is best.

I have an author pipe, as they are called, but I've smoked that while writing just a few times.  Any pipe will do, including a Churchwarden pipe, which are more often smoked while reading.

If there is one thing about to be said about men who smoke pipes is that more often than not a pipe smoker is a gentleman.  Why this is might be more about the men who are drawn to pipes, more than can be said about smokers of anything else, or the pipes themselves.  A pipe smoker is a gentleman.  This is probably true than most anything that defines a gentleman.  Why this is, I can't really say.  It has to do with the kind of person who takes up the pipe.

Smoking a pipe requires patience.  Nothing is rushed about pipe smoking.  It simply has been part of the art of being a gentleman, historically speaking.  These are my thoughts this morning about pipe smoking.  I had other posts for today, but decided on this one instead.  I'm smoking my Rosedale pipe this morning that I don't smoke all that much.  It was my second pipe purchase long ago and I still like it.  I began with some London Squire English this morning with a cup of hot black coffee.  I am now smoking some Apricots and Cream.  Thank you for your time this morning and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
