It's Been Time

Women have won the right to vote for only a hundred years.  And my writing about men's clubs yesterday got me thinking.  At the one pipe shop I frequented back in the day, there were women who smoked both pipes and cigars.  In fact, the women's movement included women who felt they had a right to smoke as men did.  And they flaunted that right.  It has not just been men who smoked pipes and cigars.

I may have written about the pipe above before, and if I have, I apologize.   It's called Gingers Favorite by Savinelli and sells for about $130 on Smoking Pipes with a retail shop selling it for about $170.  I'll give credit to Smoking Pipes for the photo above. The Parker pen company used to sell a ball-point pen just for women, but these days a pen is a pen.  Ginger's Favorite is for a woman's smaller hands, but women can smoke anything they wish these days.  However, a woman generally might prefer a smaller cigar or a smaller pipe.

Women these days love male strippers as much as men love female strippers.  And some women have clubs exclusively for women.  These days there are clubs for everyone in some form or another.  Same with smoking.  But there are women who enjoy being lady-like while still being one of the boys.  There are no rules these days about what either men or women can smoke--only WHERE they can smoke.  Some women just enjoy the smokiness of a cigar bar or a smoke shop.

There simply aren't the formal rules these days.  There are women who like the feel of a big bowled pipe or enjoy a big stogie.  There are women who know cigars, pipes, and pipe tobacco as well as some men do.  They may have grown up with a smoker who was a close relative or father.  And they just want to be a part of the tradition.  A few wives have been influenced by their husband's.  My point is that a woman doesn't have to smoke a smaller bowl pipe.

It's a woman's choice.  I don't intend to be sexist, but write from a historical perspective.  It's just different today.  But if a woman wondered where she'd begin with pipe smoking, Ginger's Favorite is a very good first pipe for the woman who wants to be a woman.  It's by Savinelli, and one can't go wrong with most any Savinelli pipe.  The above pipe has a more lady-like look to it.  Ginger Rogers was definitely a lady from the Golden Age of Hollywood.  To have a pipe named after her, speaks volumes about her.

I am in no way advocating just for men, but more about enjoying pipes and cigars as a hobby.  For me it's almost always about pipes and pipe tobacco.  I now have but one cigar I'll smoke exclusively, which is the Hemingway Signature, but sometimes it can be hard to find.  Any cigar from the Hemingway series is the best value for the money in my thinking.  A woman might like a smaller cigar like the Hemingway Short Story, which is another favorite of mine.

Well, those are my thoughts about women and smoking today.  The days of the cigarette are over, I believe, but there are those to enjoy smoking without inhaling.  I don't recommend vaping at all.  But I think pipes and cigars are okay as long as one doesn't inhale.  My wife doesn't mind a good smelling pipe tobacco, but still she's not crazy about tobacco smoke in general.  And while there are women who enjoy pipes and cigars, they are rare.  Some women enjoy the aromas and being in the company of men who do.  I'm enjoying my Dunhill  this morning having smoked the last of my Sunset Rum with a cup of hot black coffee.  I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
