The Most Sinful

The most sinful states in the country are California, Nevada, Louisiana, and then Florida.  Wallethub released it's data for 2024 that studied illicit and immoral behavior among residents of all 50 states, gleenung most of their information from public records and related incidents of arrests to the population.  Anger and hatred topped the list, followed by excessive vices, greed, jealousy, and lust.  Topping the list were alcohol abuse and gambling.  Whew!

Maybe it's  Florida that contributes to these, but at least three states were worse.  I might understand California and Nevada, and Louisiana has always been a state with a fair amount of corruption.  Of course, here in Florida we have a lot of Florida men and women and our fair share of Karen's.  But apart from alcoholism, we pretty much rate high in the seven deadly sins except for maybe gluttony, because everyone goes to the beaches here.  But that pretty much covers it.

Florida simply does not have the population of Califorbia, but California has the wealth that brings in the other sins.  As for Nevada, some might blame tourism, which might be true of Florida.  But then the comparison is by percentage to population, so who knows?  I'm just quoting from a study by Wallethub and you can draw your own conclusions.

Regardless of how low numbers might be, there will always be rankings of something or another.  Iowa just might be the number one farming state in the country, but does that stat matter?  Not to most of us.  We like to focus on sins.  Why?  It's cool.  If you mention lust, for example, you get attention.  Nevada has to be number one in the sins of gambling, lust, and alcoholism.

But then Florida has its nudity too.  But is any of this important?  Well, it might depend if you ask why Wallethub is an authority on such studies.  Crime and addictions have a lot to do with the quality of life of the residents.  Maybe Iowa has the lowest crime rate, but does anyone move to Iowa to live or retire there?  No.  And I'm not sure crime is committed because of gluttony.  Although there might be more of that in Iowa.

So, when it comes to at least six of the so-called deadly sins Florida is right up there.  And here some sins might be more deadly that others.

You might ask what this has to do with love and Valentine's Day.  Well, showing some love to our fellow beings really seems to matter and giving some love to ourselves that we don't fall into the trap of addictions.  That's all.  I'm not worried about any of you, but it just demonstrates there is a need for each one of us.  And it begins with ourselves and branches outward from there.  We are each a part of a whole.  No matter whether we live in California or Iowa.  I'm smoking my Gettysburg pipe this morning with some Spiced Rum.  I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
