A New Pipe

I received my new pipe Saturday afternoon, but didn't smoke it until yesterday.  It is a very nice pipe.  The band around the stummel is made of silver, and as I said earlier, it takes years of training to become a silversmith for Peterson.  My Dunhill is by far my best pipe with my Angel pipe being my favorite pipe.  My first pipe is my most special pipe, but I consider this new Peterson an anniversary gift from my wife.  So, it's already in one of my best category.

I have pipes that were given as gifts.  Each one of those are special pipes like my first one.  My Gettysburg pipe isn't really much of a pipe except that it smokes so well.  My Lee Van Cleef Meerschaum deserves a mentiion here as it too is a favorite pipe.  But each one of my pipes have a story to tell.  However, there are some I like better than others.

This new Peterson has already become a favorite having smoked several bowls in it yesterday.  I didn't receive a tin of Peterson's St. Patrick's Day tobacco.  The ad did say while supplies lasted.  So, my thinking is that they no longer had any in stock.  But I did receive a can of my Captain Black Cherry tobacco I ordered.  Captain Black tobaccos in cans runs about four dollars an ounce compared to about $2.50 an ounce for a 14 ounce can of Prince Albert.

Virginia tobaccos tend to cost more than Burley based tobaccos.  Are Captain Black blends that much better?  I tend to think so.  Lane has RPL-6, which is similar to Captain Black Original, but while the company is the same, the blends ARE different.  I'm pretty much sold on most any Captain Black product.  Mostly because my wife likes the aroma of Captain Black the best.

She has yet to comment on Captain Black Cherry, but she did like the aroma of the tobacco in the can after I opened it.

I've found it hard to review pipes as Smoking Pipes doesn't allow for reviews of pipes.  Pipe Smokers pretty much know pipes.  One can't go wrong with a Savinelli or a Peterson pipe.  A first pipe will be around a hundred dollars.  That is pretty much the sweet spot for a first pipe, or maybe $125 in today's money.  As one collects pipes and budgets allow pipes can cost in the thousands.

Every pipe smoker will want to have one Dunhill as it is the quentisential pipe to own.  My Dunhill new is about a $1200 pipe brand new unsmoked.  But fornately it is a smoked restored estate pipe costing less than half that.  I simply no longer need to spend more than $125 for a new pipe.  In today's money that's about where I would began.  Every time I buy a new pipe, I say I don't need new pipes.  I probably don't.

My new Peterson will simply be a nice pipe I added to my collection.  Today I'm smoking my Nording Number 3 pioe with my new Captain Black Chetty tobacco.  Some pipe smokers will say a heavily flavored Aromatic will ghost pipes.  I've smoked everything from heavy Aromatics to bold English tobaccos in all my pipes and just don't worry about it.  I've learned that a couple of bowls of the same tobacco pretty much removes any ghosting of a previous tobacco.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
