A What If Question

What if women ran the world?  I'm not a liberal saying women need to be like men.  Sometimes I wonder what if we had a woman president or a woman like Musk or Bezos or any wealthy man with that kind of power.  What if roles were reversed?  I'm not saying they should be.  But I am saying women think differently from men.  It used to be said that every great man had a woman behind him.  I'm not sure this is true anymore.  A lot of great men these days have had a lot of women it seems.

But what if the roles were just somewhat reversed with more women having greater control over power and wealth.  Would this world be full of women like Oprah, Taylor Swift, or even a Hillary Clinton?  I can't say for sure, but there are two women on the opposite political spectrum on the Supreme Court that have come together saying there needs to be more civility in discourse.  And while some women might be a bane with power, women just think differently from men.  And the right women with just enough power and influence can change the world, and I think for the better.  We simply need more civility in discourse.  That is all there is to it.  Civility in discourse seems to be outdated.  But it's why the world hasn't been blown up.  Yet.  It might take two women on opposite sides to bring people together.  And leave it to Barrett and Sotomayor to do just that.

When Sandra Day O'Conner was nominated to the Supreme Court by Reagan, the good old boy structure of the court changed.  And it has been changed since with women always being on the court.  Many don't like the liberal women, but the women seem to be forming their own club.  And to join that club one has to believe in civil discourse.  Frankly, I'm tired of the lack of civility on both sides.

This is NOT political commentary.  In fact I've decided for myself that I don't care about which side a person is on.  But I have always been a firm believer in civility in discourse.  Civility, I think, still matters.  But then I'm an old guy from old school thinking.  There are so many that believe the one who shouts the loudest get heard.  We hear the shouting, but not what's being said.  I blame the Internet for most of this.  Some might say it is the way it is so deal with it, OK Boomer?

Well, it's not okay.  Okay?  It just isn't.  Civility in discourse matters to a polite society, which we Americans have prided ourselves on historically being.  We have prevented wars with civility in discourse.  We have toppled dictators with civility in discourse.  We have changed the direction of the world with our civility in discourse.  One of our worst enemies of the world have become one of our very best allies:  Japan.  We did it with civility.

Maybe it goes back to the old adage that one catches more flies with honey.  Maybe that is an Okay Boomer kind of thinking.  But civility has changed the world and maybe with these two women it will happen again.  One could only hope so.  Well, I'm having some civil discourse with my Nording Angel pipe this morning having discoursed with Morley, which is a good English blend.   They're not thinking about where on the political landscape I might happen to be.  Frankly, I'm not either.  I don't care where any of you are either.  As long as you're civil, you may think as you wish, and for that I thank each you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
