It Could Be
Today could be just another day, but as I mentioned the other day, today is our 49th anniversary. I give more credit to my wife for the way our two sons have grown into men, but they're still our kids. For most of you it's just another day, but it is the Ides of March. The Ides of March was the 74th day of the Roman Calendar and was a day of settling debts. Julius Ceasar was assassinated on this day in 44 B.C.
My wife had planned a June wedding, but her father was battling cancer. She wasn't sure he'd make it that long so we moved the date of our wedding to this date. Of course, we heard all the jokes about being married on the Ides of March, but it seems neither of us seemed to care and still don't. So, a shout out to my wife today! We made it this far. I'll give a hint to my son's that next year will be our 50th.
I don't really have much to say otherwise today and I could recap our marriage of 49 years, but I'll spare you the details. Let me just say we made it this far. I guess we both believe in long-term relationships. My life has been more disruptive than hers, so I like stability having experienced too much change in my life early on. We've lived in six states and have finally decided no more moves. That might mean our son is stuck with us, but we just take a day at a time and wait and see.
As for anything else for today, not much is on my mind. In my later years I search for more stability in life. I like to think in long-term these days with few changes. But as I think of some nearly 50 years, while I've written about the changes we've seen, perhaps the biggest change has to be the Smartphone. It seems to be the biggest change having replaced so many things. I use my phone now more than I use my computer.
I browse the web with my phone and I can ask it by voice any question I wish. Some questions I'm not sure how to ask. And my phone doesn't always hear what I say. I hate repeating myself to my phone, nut sometimes I have to. And sometimes it still doesn't hear correctly. But using my voice to ask questions is still relatively new to me. My wife texts all the time and I don't. I'm still learning how to text. But I'm getting the hang of it.
My phone can do things I've never asked it to do, but I have no fear of loading apps into it. I have a security program and it can be a Hotspot. I can use a VPN with it and all this stuff is relatively new to me. I used to be able to teach my kids stuff, but now they have to teach me, or my wife will show me. Technologically speaking, I'm somewhat challenged these days. I always let my wife use the credit card machines at checkouts.
Well, yes, the Smartphone is the biggest advancement we've seen. But fortunately a pipe has always been a pipe. Thankfully some things never change. I've had my first pipe for 50 years now. That suits me just fine. I began this morning with a bowl of Morley'Best English tobacco and have moved on to some Cherry in my Dunhill pipe. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
