A Few Thoughts about Coffee
I love a cup of coffee with my first pipe bowl of the day. And if it's an English tobacco so much the better. I thought about writing coffee reviews here since I drink coffee that originates from so many places the world over. But if you want to know the truth I can make generalizations about coffee, but the fact is a review would be a couple of sentences. I know what I like, and I've had enough coffee to know what I don't like.
If coffee comes in a can pre-ground I won't like it. If it's ground in a bag I might consider it. But I prefer to grind my own beans. And they pretty much have to be medium roasted. My son once went to Hawaii where he had some Hawaiian grown Kona coffee. He said that was the best coffee he's ever had. Hawaiian coffee here in the States isn't bad, but it's usually too expensive and I don't think it's worth the cost.
The most expensive coffee I've ever had is Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee. But I don't believe it's worth the extra cost either. One year for Christmas, my missionary sister gave me a bag of ground Guatamalan coffee. In my thinking that was the best coffee I had had. Since then, I've never been disappointed in a coffee from Guatamala. If I had to list my favorite it would be most any Arabica bean coffee from Guatamala.
My second favorite coffee is most any Arabica bean coffee from Mexico. One type of bean I cannot tolerate is Columbian bean coffee grown anywhere. If it's Columbian coffee of any kind I refuse to drink it. For me it has to be Arabica or nothing else. The best coffee is grown near the equator. At least in the tropical zone higher up in elevation. The days are warm and sunny and the nights are mildly cool.
My wife makes her own coffee with her own perfect formula of Taster's Choice, cream, and Trivia. I used to drink coffee with cream and sugar, but I found while in seminary doctoring my coffee held up the line. So, I learned to drink it black and never looked back. A good cup of coffee has to be black. But why a cup of coffee and a pipe? Caffeine wakes me up, but I can't have too much of it.
Years ago, I used to smoke a pipe with a friend at his house who always served coffee as we smoked pipes together. I equate a pipe with a good cup of black coffee in the mornings. It's just something I do now. The rest of the day I'll drink water as I smoke my pipe. Liquid cleanses the palate. I can taste the tobacco better. So, instead of reviewing particular coffees, I simplified it and broke it all down in one post this morning. Today it is my Peterson System pioe with some Captain Black Original. My coffee this morning is a hot cup of black Costa Rican medium roast coffee. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
