Childhood Reflections

I'm starting out giving my son some warm thoughts hoping he feels better this morning after a visit to the doctor yesterday.  The other day I was scrolling through YouTube and for some reason church hymns came up with scenes of Spring.  I guess it's because Easter brings back images of going to church in the minds of us who are older.  My wife and I were discussing this at breakfast the other day.  She said she could open up any hymnal and know rhree-quarters of the songs.  I said that I agreed.  There was a time when I just got tired of the old hymns.  Bit I said the theology in those old hymns was simple.

I like theology that is simple because God is not that complex.  So, in the past few days I've been listening to those old hymns and it brought back so many childhood memories of singing those hymns in church every Sunday.  Why YoiTube put these videos for me in their algorithm, I'm not so sure, but probably because the vids I've been watching are related to Spiritualism.

People artending church today sing newer songs by new artists.  But those of us who are older grew up with old hymns.  Now that I have more time on my hands I explore various ideas through my YouTube searche.s  There for awhile I'd fall asleep listening to old radio shows.  Most were from the years before I was born.  And I'll watch videos that feature old stuff from the 50's and 60's.

But I'm not stuck in some previous tume period from way back.  I might be an old guy, but I have a very youthful heart.  I stayed with the times, but in more recent years I'm not familiar with today's cultural icons.  My music choices still come from the 60's and 70's. In my thinking that was a period of the very best music.  Tofay's music doesn't do it for me.  Back then there was nothing but the artist of the group.  There was no auto tume.

There was nothing but the artist and their band.  And there were so many independent labels.  It was a much simpler time to be alive.  We didn't have the Internet.  We had three TV stations--four if you were lucky.  There was no time shifting and if two great TV shows on at one time you simply had to choose which you'd watch.

The Internet changed all that.  I'm not saying we should go back.  But these are the memories of us "old" folks.  It was a simpler time.  But my perception of God has not changed.  He's still just as simple as He's always been.  But instead of attending church being the measure of one's Spirituality, today it's different.  We can get bombarded with Spiritual things 24 hour a day if we so wish.  We don't really need to attend church.  But finding time for meditatiin seems to be the most difficult challenge for many.

I've withdrawn from the pace of today's world.  I have time to listen to old hymns.  I have time to practice my Spirituality in any way I wish.  And smoke my pipe while doing it.  That is VERY retro.  There's just not many of us who do.  Today it is my Nording Number 3 pipe with some Match Sunrise while drinking a cup of hot black coffee. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
