Smooth Sailing
I can now write about other things beginning this morning. IIn all things I HAVE to let my Spirit Guides work. I wish I could say life is always Smooth Sailing. I chose a tin of Ashon's Smooth Sailing because it was on a list of tobacco choices for Spring. Ashton is known for its quality tobaccos. Smooth Sailing is an Aromatic with notes of Maple, coconut, and dark chocolate. Even the name depicts smoothness. I liked the name. The art work on the tin is done in bright blue with a picture of a yacht with sails sailing on blue Smooth waters and a bright blue sky.
When I opened the tin the tobacco smelled as described. It is a very light Aromatic. The hint of coconut gives it a kind of tropical flavor. We might think of Maple as a kind of flavor maybe for a New England Fall, but the blend lends itself to mote of a tropical experience.
I don't always choose tobacco blends by their names and it used to be that each pipe shop had its own name for the same tobacco. Along with Smooth Sailing I ordered a small tin of Elizabethan Mixture by Peterson. It is a very mild English blend. It is an aged Virginia with just a bit of Perique for spicing. It is a very smooth blend that could be an all day tobacco.
I'm a sampler of tobaccos. I hardly ever have an all day tobacco. There is nothing I keep on hand as a go-to tobacco the same day, day after day. For example, I'll buy a can of Captain Black Original and I'll smoke that continuously until it's gone. But after it's gone, I won't order another can for awhile. Most of my tobacco orders are various samples of tobaccos I've never tried. But once in a great while I'll order eight ounces of something I know I like with a few smaller batches of tobaccos I want to try.
But will I order more of Smooth Sailing or Elizabethan Mixture? I tend to think not. Also in my last order was four ounces of Match Sunrise by Sutliff. I'm enjoying that as my first tobacco of the morning. I just might order more of that and always keep some on hand. In comparing Sunrise to Elizabethan Mixture they both rate high on my list. Elizabethan Mixture is a top 50 best seller in Smoking Pipes site. It deserves at least an honorable mentiion as it is that good.
Other than knowing Smooth Sailing is a quality tobacco by Ashton, I probably won't order another tin. There are just too many I'd rather have. It's good, but it's not outstanding. Just good. It's a different Aromatic and if I wanted something different, it might be good to have on hand. But there are others I like better and as I've said about tins, they're just too expensive. I'd rather order in bulk. Today it is my Stanwell pipe with some Smooth Sailing and a cup of hot black Guatamalan coffee. I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
