About Those Voices

David Berkowitz was just denied parole for the twelfth time.  He is now 70 years old and was captured in 1977 after killing six and wounding five in a string of murders in NYC as the "Son of Sam" murderer, as he called himself.  Okay, I won't spend any more time on this except to say he heard voices telling him to kill.

First of all, I know enough about psychiatry to be dangerous, as is often said of novices on a subject.  I know that there are mentally ill people who have actual conversations with themselves.  Often such people are harmless.  But then someone like Berkowitz hears voices to kill.  These are the ones that need immediate help.  The problem is, we don't know who these people are until they act on those voices.  Then it's too late.  But every mental health professional will always ask whether one wants to harm someone or themselves regardless of who it is as a patient.

But in this case intervention was too late.  Now, what about those voices?  What about those devout Christians who say God tells them this or that?  Are they just hearing voices?  When I hear them saying what God tells them often I say they are.  Their own.  That's one reason I don't share my talks with God.  However, hearing voices to do harm is NOT hearing the voice of God, because His is a voice of Peace and Love.  I KNOW God's voice.  And God will NOT tell a preacher to spend fifty million dollars on a new plane!

God won't tell a recipient of Social Security money to give it to a preacher!  There ARE things God does NOT say what many say He says!  I just won't share my talks with God and most preachers shouldn't either!  Most of them would be better off if they kept their mouths shut!  Sorry for the editorializing, but blessings aren't about things.  The voices of Satan and demons are voices that seek to do harm.  The voice of God is nothing but goodness, peace, and love.  I can tell you as one who knows, I know the difference.

Some people become fixated on the voice of Satan.  But God can literally speak to most anyone and is often unexpected.  God literally moves in mysterious ways and we may never know until after He has spoken.  I fail miserably when I  say I speak for God.  God can speak for Himself.  But sometimes I want to.  I think more preachers need to shut up and spend more time listening.  They might be surprised at what they hear.  But I can say I DO know God and I know His voice.  I just would rather be quiet about what God tells me.  My thinking is, most should.  So, now I got that off my chest, I need to relax with my Viking pipe this morning with some Haunted Bookshop English pipe tobacco.   My coffee this morning is a hot black cup of Ethiopian Guji coffee.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
