Danish Estate Pipe
I haven't written much about estate pipes. I own two now, one of which broke yesterday, and once in awhile I find myself having looked at hundreds of pipes on the Smoking Pipes website I'll find something I want to write about. I read the descriptions and give a brief synopsis without plagiarizing. But once in a great while I'll find something of interest, like the pipe above. There are interesting pipes costing hundreds or thousands of dollars and I've written plenty about those pipes.
But if anyone is interested in what I have say, I'm trying to stay in the hundred dollar range for pricing, because that is the sweet spot for pipes. If one is just starting out and spent a few bucks for cheap pipes, one, they might not any longer be interested, but my thinking is that while cheap does work, a good Briar pipe shouldn't be all that expensive. One can find decent pipes in the fifty dollar range, but one moves up from a cheap used car to at least a Buick. The above pipe is used and is a freehand Nording for $100.
The pipe above is a Nording Red Grained Freehand style pipe. The pipe is machine made, but the style is that of a freehand pipe. The reddish hue is in contrast to the back grain of the pipe. I really like freehand styling of pipes, even though many are machine made. Nording is known for his freehand style. I own several Nording pipes and enjoy each of them. Nording is a Danish pipe company, and pipe smokers will argue as to whether the best pipes come from Denmark or Ireland. But one can't lose with most any Nording pipe which all fall into the affordable category like Peterson.
Some can cost hundreds as a Peterson pipe can be, but I consider Nording, Peterson, and the Italian pipe maker Savinelli to all be affordable companies. Yes, they all have pipes costing hundreds, but they all make very affordable good pipes. This estate pipe is an example of an affordable better Nording pipe. This morning I am smoking my Boswell pipe with the last of my Crooner pipe tobacco. My coffee this morning is a cup of hot black Guatamalan coffee. I thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
