How I Choose Tobacco
I usually write a few days ahead. I almost always have a few articles I write I can choose from on most any given day. I went over my tobacco order I placed the other day, and my wife wanted to know out of several thousand blends of tobacco how I chose seven and only two out of the seven I have had. Actually, it was a very good question. How do I know what to order? Which includes questions anyone might have about about going into a real tobacco shop which might have hundreds of pipe tobaccos to choose from. How does anyone know what to buy?
One could start with price. Or a tobacconist might ask if one wants an Aromatic or English? Aromatic is about flavoring and English is about strength. But even then, how does one choose? One YouTuber said his grandfather smoked only Prince Albert in a can. So, every Christmas he got a can from each of the grandkids that would last him for a year until the next Christmas. Pipe smokers like that are easy to buy for. You know what they like.
Okay, first I've never had a tobacco I hated and have been pleasantly surprised by at least a few. My wife knows I enjoy both Captain Black Original and Cherry. One can't lose with Captain Black provided the pipe smoker enjoys Aromatic tobaccos. But if all they smoke is Engkish and you don't know what they like, English can be hit or miss. One needs to know what a pipe smoker likes. But if they smoke Aromatics most any Aromatic works.
But this gets back to how one chooses. First of all, no pipe smoker is going to hate most anything. But it's good to know whether one likes either or both. Fortunately, I like both. And fortunately I like a strong English or a mild English and anything in between. So, when I began choosing I read the descriptions and I'll pay attention to see whether a tobacco has high ratings or not.
I placed an order for eight ounces of Chocolate Cavendish I never tried before. I added four ounces of Bayou Morning, because it seemed similar to Peterson's Early Morning Pipe I really like. I added an ounce of Crooner, which was Bing Crosby's choice. I just thought I'd try it. So, that is how I chose, except for Haunted Bookshop and Old Professor. I know those already. No pipe Smoker refuses not to try most anything. So, there you have it. Today it is my Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipe with some Old Professor, which I know my wife doesn't care for the room note of it. My coffee this morning is the same hot black cup of Guatamalan coffee, but freshly brewed. Thank you for your time and Peace to each of you.
