It's Baseball Season
I had to look up to see which teams are in the NHL and NBA playoffs. I know Cleveland got beat by the Celtics. But right now, for me at least, it's baseball season, but I might care about either the Reds or the Guardians, which used to be the Indians, but I can't get used to the name change. ESPN+ has recorded baseball games from the day before and since I don't follow the scores it's like watching live, but usually it's two teams I don't care about, but it's something to watch.
With a 162 game season a game here and there doesn't matter. The Pirates are playing the Braves from a game recorded two days ago. I could just look up the score, but I don't want to. I'll root for the Braves. I've never liked ANY team from Pittsburg. But it's baseball. I'm just into college football and that is about it. I'll start getting into college basketball after the college football season is over, but I was never a big fan of baseball.
I played some baseball as a kid, but I really wasn't very good at it. It kept me out of trouble during the summer months. I used to follow the Cardinals as a kid and went to a few games, but I just couldn't get into baseball. Football was my sport as a kid, but my father wouldn't let me play in high school saying I was too small. Actually, he probably saved me from a lot of health issues later in life.
I used to collect baseball cards and knew just about every player in the league. But those days are long gone. Collecting baseball cards gave way to Pokémon and Garbage Pail kids for my kids, which was okay. I quit following baseball in high school and simply lost interest. But why now? No reason, really. I'm just waiting for college football to begin. However, every year I say I won't watch football, but by October I'm sucked back into it.
I still have my softball glove I bought almost 60 years ago and it's still in pretty good shape with the same softball to keep its shape. I don't know how many times my wife and I have argued over the old glove. I keep telling her one of the grandkids can use it. Like we'll have grandkids! But I still have it. Don't ask me the last time it's been used. Probably 60 years ago. But I still have it. At least I think I do. It was in the garage in our house in NY.
I did know a few baseball players who played for the Twins years ago. My signature is on a baseball that was signed also by one of them. But that is another story. I was sitting next to one of the players who just signed his ball. So, I had spoken at a banquet, so the kid asked for my autograph too. I think it's the only time in my life I signed a souvenir. The ball is in a landfill by now. I can only hope.
So, the game is on and I can't remember who is playing. Like I really care. No wonder they call it a slow game. One game out of 162 isn't much. But it's something to watch. I'm smoking my pipe and watching some guys I never heard of play. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
