Another One?
I thought about writing about another pipe this morning, but I got to thinking about other pipes that are used recreationally for something like Marijuana. Can a bong be used for tobacco, for example. Actually, tobacco can be smoked in most anything designed for smoking. There are novelty pipes made of various plastics that are used recreationally for Marijuana that can be used for tobacco.
But the most enjoyment of tobacco is from a good Briar pipe. Clay has been used. Stone has been used. Glass has been used. In fact a pipe can be fashioned from most any wood. Meerschaum pipes are wonderful. And the opposite is true for smoking weed. Marijuana can be smoked in most any kind of pipe, including Briar. But why a Briar pipe for tobacco? Tobacco tends to burn hot. And Briar has been found to be the best wood for tobacco pipes.
Tobacco can be smoked in a vapor pipe, but I caution anyone about inhaling pipe tobacco. Besides doing great damage to one's lungs, inhaling nicotine can make one very I'll. The nicotine in pipe smoke is absorbed through the mouth and nostrils. Pipe tobacco isn't refined with additives as cigarettes are. Inhaling nicotine from pipe smoke directly into one's lungs is the very worst. Same is true with cigars, but cigars are even worse as the smoke is even more concentrated in a cigar.
I actually thought of smoking pipe tobacco in something other than my traditional pipes, but I decided that spending my money on something other than Clay, Meerschaum, Briar, or a Cob pipe just doesn't appeal to me. I've had pipes made from Cherry and Pear woods, but they just don't hold up. I've never smoked from a Clay pipe, but have been tempted to try it as it was the pipe our forefathers smoked in the taverns at that time.
I'm just not sure I want to spend the money on a pipe I won't enjoy nearly enough to justify the cost. I brought eight Briar pipes with me to NY and have a pipe for each day of the week plus one. I smoke my Nording Angel pipe exclusively on Sunday's. I have three Peterson pipes, plus my two other Nording pipes, and my Boswell. This way I can smoke all my pipes in one week, plus my one extra Nording I rotate with the other. My Boswell is my Saturday pipe. Then there is my Dunhill, which is my Tuesday pipe. Today it is my Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipe with Lane 1-Q. My coffee this morning is Stumptown Holler Mountain. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
