Channelling Tolkien
Some people think I need to write for publication. Doing so would give us some extra money in our golden years. If I was worried about death and dying, I'd be worried about many things. But I haven't taken anything off the table in terms of earning money. My Spirituality is my own. No one can duplicate it. But as to whether I have anything meaningful to say is the question.
Sure, I write here about pipes, Tobaccos, stuff related to pipe smoking, and my Spirituality, but I am relatively unknown in the pipe smoking community. I am known to Smoking Pipes on-line store, but they are a big outfit and draw from all over. Pipe smokers tend to be quite erudite and verbose when it comes to writung. My style is relatively simple and straightforward. Hemingway was often told he wasn't a great writer, but he told stories so well.
A good storyteller doesn't need a fancy vocabulary nor do they need an acumen for the English language. A good writer tells a good story. It used to be said that newspaper editors had to edit publication so a fourth grader could understand it. Things have changed over the years. It used to be said that one publishes or perishes. Now it's social media. And I am quite purposely removed from social media. In order to do what needs to be done these days requires the efforts of a team.
This blog is just me. And my audience is quite small although I've been doing this almost daily for several years now. I do it because I force myself to do it. And while I have been working on my autobiography, it's something else to keep my mind occupied. I want to also get back to working on my Lego DB-5. But I have many things to occupy my mind these days, but a lot of it revolves around this blog. It is part autobiographical. These days one can self-publish on Amazon as one of my sons did recently.
I'm proud of what my son's have accomplished without input from me. As to whether I'll publish anything remains to be seen. I work on stuff. A lot of it is in my head. Google has replaced just about all reference works and will translate into other languages, if one so desires. English is so common the world over that publishing in English can be read by most anyone these days.
I had a professor once who held up a book and raised it up for the class to see it saying it was the best book he ever read. One of the astute students in class noticed the book was written in French. So, I work on stuff. But I don't seem to be in any rush to get something published. But if anyone asks me if I'm working on something the answer is that I'm always working on something, even if I seem to be doing nothing but sitting there smoking my pipe. I'm always asking Google something. And it's not always related to pipes and tobacco.
So, this is my answer to those who think I just sit around smoking my pipe. My wife thinks I think too much and that isn't good. But I'm thinking. And I write. I smoke a pipe and that helps a lot. Today it is my Peterson Irish Harp pipe with some Longbottom Leaf tobacco. In case anyone wants to know what I do when smoking my pipe, I'm channeling Tolkien. It was said of Tolkien that no one understood what he was saying because he always talked with a pipe in his mouth. Yet, again, he was a great storyteller. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
